Paolo is having trouble posting the flag, so he has asked me to post the "supposed" Cavalry Flag of Gen Torres. Here you go Paolo. And heres a pic of Gen Isidoro Torres, who surrendered to Gen Frederick Grant at Malolos on April 26, 1901. Gen Torres was tried and sentenced to death for the execution of a US soldier of the 12th Inf. But lucky for him Governor-General Chaffee believed his side of the story and pardoned him.

Thanks dimasalang for postiing the flag and for the image and notes on General Torres. Mabuhay Paolo Very interesting "cavalry" flag sir. Would you know if these two other flags of the Katipunan were supposed to be suspended like a roman standard or were they worn like masonic aprons around the waist?

A note on the image published by r2ro (Art ) the gonfalon was divided in two parts or stripes; one was red, the other one was blue but in some web sites , researches and charts the field of the gonfalon was red. It is a mistake!

Hi friends, one was a gonfalon of the KKK, at present it is in a spanish museum, on my web site (http://xoomer.alice.it/watawat) you can find out a better image of it; the other one was not a flag , was as you sad : "worn like masonic aprons around the waist".In some publications they say it is a KKK apron but i'm not sure about this version.

Hello Paolo & Dimasalang,
Thanks for posting the Filipino Cavalry guidon/flag. Similar to US Cavalry guidon. The only different is ours has a blue color on it. The flag that was captured by the Washington Volunteers has a two shade of color. One side is light (red) and the other side is dark (blue) and that is my impression on that picture also with a white wide line in between across on each side. I have a picture of General Grant with a bunch fo Filipino Army officers surrendering. Could it a General Torres pictures? I'll post it later as soon I figure out how to do it. Thanks.

Here is an interesting book which features a colored illustration of an Philippine flag claimed by the author (a certain Murat Halstead?) as having been "presented" to him by Aguinaldo during the period after the Battle for Manila bay and prior to the outbreak of hostilities between the Filipino and American forces. The Flag The Book Murat Halstead with Commodore Dewey Map of the Manila Bay battle The units which comprised Dewey's victorious squadron

Nice and very interesting illustration RayadillO this flag is one of the (few ) filipino flag who had the mythological sun with eyes and lips parallel to the blue and the red stripe. Almost 95 % of the national flag, from may 1898 to 1936 had the mythological sun with the eyes and the lips perpendicular to the blue and red stripes. I think the illustration don't follow the real shape and details of the original filipino flag , in all the original filipino flags the eyes , nouse and lips were depicted in black color , like in the first dilipino flag from Hong Kong. Anyway, can i add this image to my web site ? (www.watawat.net ). Mabuhay

Posting this picture and request from Paopadd: Paolo found this picture of what is suspected to be the first Philippine flag, on display at Presidio Park in SF, California ... as part of an exhibit about the Fililipino-American War. Does anyone in the bay area have a better photo of this flag? (and additional info about it?) Thanks!

Hello Claire & friends;
Here are some inconsistencies on the facts about the 1st flag. :
1. Claire had mentioned that this is the 1st / original flag. She mnetioned according to the reserarchwers of UP and from the Smithsonian Institute, its made of silk.
2. But according to the NHI, I had talked at least 2 of the persons who saw it, the head of the library of NHI, Teddy last 2008 & Ambeth Ocampo during his last lecture last Jan22 at the Nat'l Museum, according to them with the group of scientist, that flag is made of cotton, no part of all colors present there is made from silk. Thus the gov't does not acknowledge that this is the 1st flag.
3. I though when I made my diorama the making of the 1st Flag (this is my model having the photo with a Laurel leaves in the middle & words inside saying like this : Libertad Justicia & Egualdad" that this was the 1st flag also. I also wonder why they do not believe the Aguinaldos who was the authority in saying which is which. The NHI examination result proved its not. Maybe the Aguinaldo clan has other reason to say that this is the 1st flag, .....
4. But wheather or not this is the 1st flag, we must all preserve it for this is one of the Flag sued during the Revolution that our Heroes died for just to give us the freedom that we currently enjoy. The flag is a material thing a symbol of our liberty, but I believe the actual / real freedom is more important that we should preserve.
