The photo of Jap guards beating down Filipino prisoners on the river looks like a very crisp video still of some war movie. With the camera positioned taking the photo from the river.

I don't know... those Filipino POWs look way too healthy for this photo to be authentic.

I don't know... those Filipino POWs look way too healthy for this photo to be authentic. Yes it could be. But I kept on looking at the uniforms and equipment and it seems the Japanese are authentic. The only possible inconsistency is that one of the Japanese looks like he has side burns. Japanese troops are usually closely cropped or shaved bald (even as some may have beards and moustaches), aside from the relatively well fed Filipino prisoners.

Hi ! I'm Arnaldo Dumindin..it was I who created that website, worldwar2philippines.photosite.com/album1/p26_edited.htmlThe site no longer exists; photosite.com has discontinued its free hosting service. I'm rebuilding the world war 2 site using another free web hosting service but I'm not done yet. By the way, I downloaded that photo of Japanese guards abusing Filipino POWs from this site: www.battlingbastardsbataan.com/bbbpics.htmCopy and paste the link and it takes you straight to that heart-rending scene. I graduated from the University of the Philippines with a BA in History and certificate in advanced ROTC in 1977. By the way, you might be interested in my still unfinished site on the Philippine-American war...here's the site: www.freewebs.com/philippineamericanwar/

Hi Arnaldo, Welcome to this forum! Fantastic website you ahve on the Philippine American war! I specially enjoy viewing the rare photos of Filipino revolutionaries. And those "sponsors" are hilarious! I am amazed with the amount of photos you have collected for that site. And your layout looking like an antique book page is great! I will save your site in my favorites section. Mabuhay aso Arnaldo at ang Katipuneros! ;D Philip

the photo of the Japanese beating the Filipino prisoners is a new one for me. if this was a movie done back in the 40s or 50s, i just don't believe if it was a filipino movie that the japanese equipment would be that exact. I've seen too many movies and even hollywood could not do this good. the comment on the 91st div. massacre on the Pantingan river ,well the massacre was near Pantingan but, not in the river. near is being over a mile or so away. of course who knows could it be the netherlands east indies? you can't tell filipinos from indonesians very easy.i'm not trying to down play the photo. i say its authentic and it appears that these pows are trying to get at the water as they cross. just my opinion. foxholefrank.

Hello Arnaldo
Found your Phil-Am War pages surfing the net and when I googled your name I came across this site. Your presentation impressed me so much I wanted to find out more about the author. Your vast and outstanding collection of photographs and the crisp description are most enjoyable and educational to me. Pictures put life into the story. Congratulation, you need recognition. I will pass it on to all my friends. Can’t wait until you complete your WWII pages again Salamat This is from a retired US Sailor in Subic Bay.

Mr. Arnaldo Dumindin I really must comment on how much I enjoy your website on the Philippine-American War. I would love to see a bibliography go with it. I am a grad student and it would legitimize your work and some kind of photo credit would make it professional and quotable to scholar's. I would love to use it in my research on the 1st Idaho. Thanks Corey Clyne At Boise State Univ.

Unfortunately the photo of the Japanese kicking prisoners in the river is a fake. Close examination of the uniforms and equipment actually show quite a few errors in addition to the overall well fed appearance of everyone and style of camera placement. Also, the Japanese would never have allowed such a photo to be taken, let alone published! This is undoubtedly a still from an old movie.
