Well, I'm not sure what you folks have going on this day, but the CHG has a full plate.
Annually, we attend the 4th Of July parade in Huntington Beach. But, this year, Los Alamitos Joint Reserve Base has invited our club to come and not only set up displays, but to conduct a 30 minute battle. As the base is associated with the 40th Infantry, who fought in the Philippines, they want to do a Philippine battle. I think they've chosen Lingayen.
Our Public Relations guy, Ron Lane, wanted to get a hold of you guys to see if you'd be interested in coming and being a part of this event. They want a scenario where the Japanese attack the American and Filipino lines, then win. Then, Americans come and land with tanks and such and retake the area.
Now, the talk about this event has been big, but I'm always skeptical until I actually see it being done, or at least see the money being spent. But, this is the military putting on this show, so who knows. Right now, they have stated that they are going to set up burms and pillboxes to add atmosphere. In the pillboxes, they will staff their own guys with modern MGs, all hidden but there to add to the firefight. The CHG tanks and jeeps will be there, as well as the Japanese Ha-Go mock-up tank. There is other things they've been talking about and I don't want to mention them for fear of jinxing them. But, basically, they'd like this to be quite the show... and I hope they can pull all of it off.
Now, I've never been, but apparently the Los Alamitos 4th Of July fireworks show has been going for some time and they get quite the turnout: 25,000 visitors or so! They've invited us to come and set-up a display, do the battle, feed us, and allow us to stick around for the fireworks.
I hope you guys can turn out for this as it's great that we'd have a public battle with the focus on the Philippines!
