And so, on the 4th of July, the newly re-named Dead Soldiers Society convened to celebrate that bitter sweet love-hate relationship we've had with the United States. Cesar recommended that Romulo's, a converted house at the corner of Dr. Lazcano and Scout Tuazon would be the ideal setting for our gathering (The walls are covered with CPR memorabilia and photos). Channel 5 news was present to cover what may have seemed a really strange gathering to them.
Attire was various grades of commonwealth uniforms from Class A to C from Perry's now iconic igorot scout to the 2 jojo's class A uniforms. Dinner consisted of BONELESS CRISPY PATA!!!!!!, kare kare, fried butterflied tilapia, chicken relleno, tuna sisig washed down with red wine and cava. I think i just lost a couple of minutes off my life from the night's cholesterol intake. I skipped every single meal that day to prepare myself, and yes folks, it was worth it.
The news crew tried to put a distinctly pro-am spin to their reportage which was deftly parried by Jojo Dy who said, we are here to honor and celebrate history...politics are a personal matter.
Thanks to Cesar for organizing this. It was a truly unique and fun way of celebrating our nation's military heritage.
