edition.cnn.com/2011/US/01/10/obit.dick.winters/index.html?hpt=T2Well he's not directly related to Philippine history but darn if he didn't inspire all of us in one way or another. I've had the honor of personally shaking the hands of quite a few of the Band of Brothers (eg. Guarnere, Hefron, Compton, Malarkey, Guth, etc) at the Reading WW2 Weekend -- But I've never shaken Dick Winters' hand. I never had the luck to chance upon him in Reading. Now I never will. I've read Band of Brothers, and his two other books, Beyond Band of Brothers, and Biggest Brother. I've watched the mini-series countless times since it came out in 2001. I admire him so much, and respect and admiration for him seems universal to those who knew about him. I'm really sorry that he's passed on. While he's having quite a reunion with old buddies up there, us down here are left with a great sense of loss. In the last episode of the Band of Brothers mini-series, a scene showed Capt. Sobel not saluting Major Winters. Capt. Sobel was not in good terms with him, but Winters said to him: "We salute the rank, not the man." Well Major Winters... I salute you, the man, not the rank. Farewell and Godspeed.Tanghal 'Ta! (Present Arms) Men of Easy Company talk about him A tribute to him His famous line

I rode my motorcycle down to the "Dragon" in North Carolina and Tennessee and it's not terribly far from the area where the camp was. Does anyone know if it would be worth a trip to that area or is everything pretty much gone?
