Saludos!
While this isn't directly Philippine related, it might interest some of you.
For a long while, I've been interested in putting together a Span-Am impression, but the lack of other reenactors and events definitely put a hamper on my enthusiasm. However, several months ago I was approached by a couple friends and asked if I would like to take part in the first ever (I believe) Spanish-American War reenactment in Puerto Rico. Naturally, my interest was revived.
The event took place in the southern town of Arroyo, which was one of the landing sites of the American forces. The reenactment covered several days, and featured the landing of the Americans, followed by the Spanish raid lead by Captain Salvador Acha.
We also visited the cities of Ponce and Guayama to do short displays in their central plazas, as well as a photo shoot at an old house (now a museum) in Guayama.
All together, there were 4 American soldiers, 7 Spanish soldiers, and 3 civilian women. A small event, yes, but it is only the first year . We were housed in a local museum with a staff that could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the town of Arroyo provided live music on the boardwalk each night. We all had a blast day and night.
Here is a link to some pictures from the event:

I love reenacting at the sites where the history actually happened (living in Chicago means I often have to travel long distances for such). This is the second reenactment I've done in Puerto Rico (the other is the 1797 invasion) and I have to say it can't be beat. There is so much history there, the weather is always perfect, and the people are absolutely delightful. The rum is a big thumbs up too!
We hope to get the word out about this event and hopefully we can get some more people to dust off their old Span-Am kits and come join us next year! It is really something that has been unfairly neglected on the reenacting scene out here.
