Mabuhay ang BNK Filipinas! My congradulations to Perry and his group! Selwyn and Nonito.
Yes I immedietly recognize your mon when I saw that photo emailed to me by Selwyn! I hope Perry got to meet your Mom that day!
Truly impressive ceremony and march they orchestrated! This time it looked like a huge success! This is great for raising more awareness of Philippine History for this hobby and giving it more purpose and appreciation by the Filipino public back home.

Yes, Perry was able to talk briefly with VeeVees mom, and they were smiling a lot while they chatted. The parade was fun, nicely organized and had a substantial number of students, faculty and spectators. They had the UP band, choral groups, UP Corp of Cadets, academe and even had an acetylene cannon mounted on the rear of a pick up emitting a large blast reminiscent of an 81mm mortar round detonating You could see the students and spectators jump as one every time the cannon roars heheheh Even without the financing of the National government, the crowd and participants were so animated and the college departments including the DMST cooperated so well that it can only be seen as a rousing success. Wished you were there too guys

Here are pictures from the parade and commemoration of Macario Sakay's centenary. The long haired reenactors are supposed to be Sakay and his followers. The guys with M14 drill rifles are not reenactors. They are UP cadets in traditional regalia. It looks like the parade went around the UP academic oval stopping at all the major buildings around the campus. Here is a little background about Sakay: www.bibingka.com/phg/sakay/default.htmEDIT: Sorry I have to take out most of the pictures. For some reason the organizers of the event don't want pictures of it posted. This is unfortunate for those who appreciate, support, and believe in the endeavor but not lucky enough to witness the event except through photos. (shrug)

Hello friends, My photos of the Sakay Centenary Art Exhibit and Reenactment March are posted in my photo website: picasaweb.google.com/selwyn.alojipan. If anybody dares to make me remove those photos I took with my camera, let him email me to get a lecture on copyright and freedom of speech and expression. Or how about a challenge to a duel as they used to do in the old days. ;D It was fun being the flagbearer of the replica Philippine Flag of the Malolos Congress (with the red field up!). Hope the rest of you also get a chance to do so! Selwyn

After viewing the photos of the march. The only ones truly WORTH appreciating and photographing were the BNK reenactors and the UP ROTC color and honor guard. Without these group's mentioned above the "sakay" event would be pathetic presentation.
Those "Sakay" impressions were no GREAT IMPRESSIONS based on the photos as they no accoutrements at all, even a simple pistol belt, they only thing they had to show was the long hair. Reminds me of the Macabebe mercenaries. And to think the UP professors were so over zealous about the rights of the event! Really sad they are that desperate to claim rights to it.

Kaibigan,

I truly believe that whatever issues came up with regards to this event were due to several layers of plain and simple misunderstandings amongst all parties involved. ALL. Something like this tend to produce knee-jerk reactions from everyone. It's okay, we're all human.
In the interest of preventing anything negative to fester and grow, I am locking this thread. Let's not sweat the small stuff. May we all continue to work together to keep the memory alive and promote our heritage. That's what it's all about, regardless of our various areas of interests within the historical context.
