Greetings Philip,
Great pictures! I've never seen so many Philippine Scouts in one place before. Its awesome! Wish I could have been there. You all look very authentic. Seems like you guys had a lot of fun. Are they going to air your segment on TFC? I was wondering if you could tell me when so I can keep an eye out for it. I'm still amazed at what you guys were able to do. Who set up the display on the side of the truck? Did the jeep belong to any you guys? Tell Manny he looks very heroic with that bloody head bandage and Thompson in hand. Joseph's impression reminds me of a Philippine scout I saw in one of the vintage photos holding a captured katana. Congratulate everyone for me. You guys did a great job. Who are the two guys in the blue uniforms? Great pictures Philip. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Milspec,
I will let you know as it was Manny and Mr Ortega who were talking with them most of the time. We will be sent a video copy as they mentioned. Yes I really hope to see that news clip.
The Truck and Jeep are all owned by the Fort MacArthur historical group headed by John Kanaster. And they have invited us to be part as volunteers and can have photo shoots with all their WWII vehicles. They also have a command car!
Yes Joseph looks talagang Pinoy scout! ;D That was Manny's Idea on Sunday to come as bloodied! Great effect too.
Next year we will have a "Captured Japanese Officer" who will be paraded under fixed bayonet guard of course around the fair grounds. So as the Pinoy public will really get to see opposing side of the Pacific war. ;D
Victor,
Thanks for your adding a link to the other section and we were all wishing that you and Perry were here to join us! It was the biggest event we ever participated this year. The Pinoy community in LA showed up massively those two days. we were so busy meeting and talking with reporters and one was from head of UCLA library research. We got so much exposure and awareness to the Pinoy public. Teddy got to meet the Deputy consul general of the Philippines.
We met a lot of veterans and even have a possible Pinay Nurse to join as a WWII Nurse too! One Pinay Artist was going to do a Filipino comic book about our soldiers and needed lots of info for here research material ! The other guys Ray and Joseph have more pictures than what I have.

While doing the research, collecting gear, and dressing the part is the base fun in this hobby, it's really keeping the memory alive, honoring the vets, educating and generating interest from the public and preserving the heritage that makes it the most fulfilling. And that is what you guys just accomplished in this event. Thank you and I salute your efforts.

Is that a real BAR? If it's real, is it a single-shot?
Were there other Filipino vets aside from Gen. Ortega?

Yup that's the real BAR but the ammo feeder has been modified or blocked and the magazine also This is owned by the MacArthur museum and historical group, including the thompson.
Yes as for Vets they all started to show up as they saw our display area. One was from the 1st Filipino regt. based in Salinas. So many recognized our divisional patches. One Lady told us her stories and witness all the atrocities as child back then of the Japanese. A lot of them had long wonderful conversations with Mr Ortega and photo opps together. I know this made all those vet's weekend very special and unforgetable. We were a big hit with everyone. ;D

Greetings Joseph,
Those are great pictures Joseph. I don't know if Philip mentioned it to you but you look very convincing as a Philippines Scout. Not that the others aren't as convincing but you look like you just jumped out of a vintage photograph. I really like the close-up shot of the Jeep passengers and the M1917A1 Machine Gun crew. Does the M.G. also belong to the Fort MacArthur Museum? Its a great prop. That close-up of you and Manny with the M1917A1 could pass for a vintage picture if it were black and white or maybe sepia and a bit grainy.
Thanks for sharing.

Really! Wow! I wonder if a photo of his uncle as a scout exists. Maybe we could compare his impression with the actual one.

During the event, Manny told me that I look like I can be a reference for Osprey publications. Pero, speaking personally, as much as I try to scrutinize the pictures, I can't seem to see myself standing out from everybody else. To me, I look like everybody else. Anyway, thanks for the vote of confidence! Same with you, I also like those closeup pictures. Kasi kita yung details. The jeep, the MG, the truck, BAR and other weaponry or equipment belong to Fort MacArthur. I think it's a good idea to try and backdate my picture with Manny. Kaya lang, I'm too lazy to do it. By the way, Philip was the one who took that picture. So, big credit to Philip. He shot that picture in such a way na we don't see the uziseros in the background.

It turned out Joseph just found out that his uncle was a Scout. It's in the blood, he could assume the look ;D Yup, I just found out indeed that my Uncle is a Philippine Scout. I told my Dad about me wearing USAFFE uniform and he told me about his older brother. When I was a kid, I have heard stories that my Uncle was a World War II veteran, and that he escaped the Death March to fight with the guerillas up until the liberation. But, as I said, I was a kid then and didn't really paid much attention to those stories. Sadly, my Uncle passed away of lung cancer when I was in my teens. I was wondering then why his casket was covered with an American Flag, and that he was given a 21 gun salute. I never got to hear his war stories first hand. The only known documentation I know of my Uncle's exploits was through a book written in the early 80s. The author was a Philippine Military officer. He compiled details of all the Filipino heroes of World War 2, including my Uncle's actions which garnered him a decoration. The author provided a signed copy to my Dad. Unfortunately, I cannot determine the whereabouts of that book. I don't even know now the name of the author nor the exact title of the book. But you guys gotta believe me. There is such a book out there. Hopefully, someday, a copy will turn up.
