Martin: I've seen older reenactor pics, particularly those doing U.S. IW, CW, Span-Am. I like that pic with the bolo. Is there an "official" way to include that in PS gear?

Hi Mish, Scouts on Bolo drills and Krag rifles. The 26th were issued US army Bolo bayonets with canvass scabbard. Philip

Martin:
Great shots and a face to the name. Maybe you should make yourself a top dog and be an old salt instead of an old officer.
You look great. Post some more.

I have the things to do an enlisted also. I don't have anything but an M1 and an M1 Carbine for US rifles. I use my friends M1903A1's and M1917's for my denim pants and khaki shirt impression. I don't agree with the yellow grenade, but this is what I am shooting at with that impression. www.flickr.com/photos/benteen/1023221114/Martin

Also, where is it proper to hang it from? I haven't seen pics of PS using the bayonet grommets on the haversack to hang a bolo; on the belt, maybe?

I'm not sure the cavalry had the haversacks like the infantry did. I mean they had their mounts to haul stuff for them. As far as I've read and heard about, the cavalry had the bolo bayonets and confirmed by two 26th Cavalry vets in personal conversation and via email. They must have hung it on the belt just like in this photo: click for bigger

And its being a particularly cav-only issue item means it's irrelevant for my infantry PS guy for now. Shame - unless we find supporting reference otherwise. It's a nice piece of gear. Where's that pic from? Great for reference.
