Dang -- on my birthday, too! (I wasn't born until 1949, though). Can I take a raincheck on that? (My wife is taking me out for the day, today) I plan to take my M1 (August, 1941 receiver, to) to the range next week. I'll fire off a few more rounds in honor of this day.

AAR on the match sent in by Frank
----------------------- Gopher Flats, High Power Rifle Match Report, July 26, 2008 “I Shall Return”
The July High Power Match was attended by fourteen shooters. With the National Matches at Camp Perry imminent, many of our regular shooters were absent. Those on the State team, small bore coaches as well as volunteers were in transit to Ohio. Fortunately, new faces filled in and the Gophers might just pick up some new members from this turn out.
The course of fire was the John C. Garand “B” course, 5 sighters and 50 rounds for record on the SR target. Every service rifle of the Twentieth Century was represented on the line, 1903 Springfield, M1 Garand, M1A and AR15. We even had an M1 Carbine join us for this match.
Due to the high fire danger, ammunition was restricted to lead core, copper jacketed rounds only. Those with non-compliant ammo were able to trade straight across to comply with the club regulations.
The match was underway by 8:45 AM and three relays were completed by 1 PM. Most competitors stayed for the Gopher Flats BBQ and helped clean up any left over chicken, tri tip and coleslaw. Great job done by the galley, the chow was excellent. After lunch, the competitors helped put away the gear and policed the pits and firing line before taking off.
M1 winner was Bruce Kawaguchi with a 468-7X score. Steve Caplan was second with a 458-2X. Marco Rojas fired a personal best with his M1 and carded a 457-9X score. Mike Stern was one point behind with a 456-7X fired with an M1A. High score overall goes to Nile Ragusin with a 496-26X fired with his AR15. Sorry Nile, but you shot it and we report it as it is. Congratulations to all!
Special thanks to Mike DeSantis, Kevin Jew, Shawn Nishimuro, Greg Sullivan and Frank Lopez. They are all new competitors to Lopez Canyon and we heartily welcome them to our event.
As a reminder, on the first Saturday of the month, LARC will hold a 100 yard match at Angeles Shooting Ranges and Ojai will host a 600 yard match on the first Sunday of the month. Stand by for the August Match announcement. As always, early response to the match announcement is appreciated for pre-squadding and logistics planning.

Nearest thing was an Israeli Mauser I bought myself that arrived yesterday. Some interesting "history" behind it.
