Hi guys, my first post:
I recently decided to build a Phillippine Scouts kit and, as expected, found myself trolling through stuff on eBay. I wonder if there's an existent list of sellers you guys would recommend? I tried doing a search using "ebay" but that didn't throw up a single result.
If there isn't any extant list, I'd appreciate a few pointers to sellers/shops you regard as trustworthy, with good items up for sale, and a generally positive reputation among the online sellers community. Uniforms, gear, general PS militaria - any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

For ww2 items, At The Front is excellent, even with shipments to Asia

At the Front makes little to nothing, that is usable, in a Scout impression (if we are talking WW2). You will have better luck dealing with What Price Glory and Schipperfabrik.
Ebay items are hit and miss. Things like original headgear, web gear and the like can be found on Ebay. I got my shirt from National Historic Capital Sales on ebay, but he is a long time WW2 dealer.

I have bought several items from What Price Glory for my impression like the 1931 cavalry boots, pistol lanyard, bayonet scabbard, among other things.
At the Front... the service boots.
Welcome to the forum mish. We'll help you.
I've also bought many items from ebay but no favorite seller.... just whoever was sellling what I needed at that time.

Hello VeeVee, victoree and kalbs. Thanks for the welcome and the replies. Yep, I'm gonna need all the help I can get. Right now my kit amounts to almost, umm, nothing. Here's what I have so far:
Uniform:
- Third Pattern? M1936? Service Shirt - "Shirt, Flannel, OD, Coat style" - (the one without the plackets and gas flap) - Khaki Summer Uniform, shirt and trousers (the trousers have to be taken in... they're too big for me) - M1938 Leggings - straps missing
Gear:
- M1A2 Gas mask and bag
That's about it. I have a loong loong way to go. For the service shoes, I'm thinking I'd plan a Marikina visit first armed with pictures for a pasadya. If that doesn't work out, then I'd probably go the ATF route too. For the helmet, I think _that's_ going to be a problem.
#####
kalbs: Yup I've been checking out ATF. It's one of the sites I regularly go to for WW2 impressions info, aside from WPG, and two other sites I've found recently - ww2classics.com (Chinese-owned) and replicaters.com (Indian). I'm sorely tempted to get ATF's Infantry webbing package, but figure I want to attempt to build the kit one by one first, and if frustration levels reach intolerable, _then_ go for the repro package. How do you go about building your kits, particularly gear-wise? All-repro in one go or piecemeal? Please give pros and cons.
#####
victoree: Why do you say that about ATF? Aside from the sometimes over-the-top pedantic/nose-thumbing/sometimes condescending tone of the owner, I think it's an ok site. I've never dealt with them before, though. Thanks for the Scipperfabrik pointer. That one I haven't run into yet. Interesting stuff they have.
#####
If any one among your group members/friends/acquaintances have PS-related gear they're letting go of/willing to part with, please let me know. Any help greatly appreciated.

They used WW1 equipments. A WW2 gear package from ATF would be totally wrong.
The combat shirt is also incorrect. You need a straight pattern 1937.
I always tell my guys, this is a living history activity, you don't need to get a 100 percent impression right off the bat. Spend the time getting correct items, instead of plugging holes with incorrect ones.
There are WW2 things with prewar dates stamped a patterns on them. They are not 100 percent for 1941-42. One good example is leggings. Any legging with steel or blackened brass metal parts is not correct for the PS impression of WW2. Another is that, shirt's that do not have a seperate neck band, are wrong.
The helmet is expensive, but not as expensive as an M2 Paratrooper helmet or a restored M1 fixed bale. It is more important to you impression than a T handled shovel or even a M1910 haversack is in the beginning.
There are alot of people that think cutting corners is okay. Do some research, make a plan and build your impression. You will be happier doing it right, once, the first time.
