wow! came back and the thread "Moro Scout" was locked. i would've to love to participate even more, but due to work and having no access to internet over there, i didn't get to see what was going on. but like you, dimasalang, i'm not a reenactor myself, but an avid amateur historian. seems like a lot of what we know as history at present are more of His-story, the victor's version. veevee, i realize that we need to be civil in this forum, but argument such as the one on that closed thread need to be aired out every now and then, if you don't mind. you have been fair, and i would like to commend you for it. i realize that this forum is more for re-enactors, but the main reason i'm here is for its historical context, which is the reason how i ended signing up on this forum. there's just not too many forum like this around here. finally, i just wanna address the final line that was addressed to me on that thread:
legionnaire said:
"This is so way off topic from what I had originally posted and again pointless gripes of history nobody can change for the sake of false patriotic "nationalism"."
if you think these are pointless gripes, or false patriotic "nationalism", so be it. call it whatever you want, but let me ask you this: if we don't correct our history with all these dizzying amount of information available, who will?

Thanks, this forum is equally a history as well as a reenactor's forum. I classify myself as an "accidental reenactor". I'm more of an amateur historian or history buff who took up living history reenacting to represent our heritage because very few people do it in this unique way. Historical discussions have as much place in this forum as reenactment discussions and photos. I locked the old thread because it had gotten "toxic." Better to start a new thread after everyone's gotten a good night's sleep

The United States has a long history of using ethnic/cultural/political differences to conduct warfare. It was even being practiced before there was a United States. They had the French and Indian Wars. Look how many Native Americans got involved in that one. You can move up to the Revolutionary War. There were plenty of Natives used there. This was done during the Plains Wars, the wars against the Apaches, ie., Geronimo. The Sioux Reservation Police even killed Sitting Bull. www.flickr.com/photos/duffeli/394411036/Now along comes this action in the Phillipines, most of the same officers are around that conducted actions in the 1880's. They have alot more rank now. Are they not going to employ the very thing that got them results before? I also thought about this, water boarding prisoners, oh that is nothing new either. They liked to do that to the people in the Philippines during the period discussed. Martin

Thanks Ron, After posting everything in the other thread, that same night I really felt all of it was for nothing. I am glad you got something out of it. If only one person got something out of it, then it was worth the effort and the trip no matter how it ended. It is great to hear that we share the same ideals and want to unlock pieces of our history that are swept under the rug. Maybe sometime in the future we can work on a project together. I forgot to mention Tagailog(Richard) and Macky Hosalla who have posted on this forum are also now good friends of mine... and the 3 of us worked on a project together dealing with the Battle of San Mateo/Gen. Geronimo/Gen. Lawton/Tiradores De La Muerte, and wow did we stumble across a wealth of information just between the 3 of us. Not only excellent research on their part, but fun at the same time and a great learning experience...and we did it all through emails. I would like to do the same with anyone else who has a passion for Philippine History as we do...and I wouldn't care what era it deals with as this broadens overall knowledge...so if you or anyone need a helper, just let me know. ;D Regards, Kevin Dimasalang45@gmail.com

Thanks for your contributions to the forum. Many learn from your postings.
Philip and I in particular and many other members of the forum are into the Philippine Scout heritage specifically WW2 and Bataan. As such, a great deal of our time, talent, and effort go into promoting the celebration of Filipino and American brotherhood and heritage. Obviously anything dealing with the Fil-Am war comments and discussions kind of goes against that grain because well both camps where at war at that time.
But it's the history what can you do? It is what the history is. Similar anti-British comments have been made with regards to the American Revolution but the the US and the UK are allies today, in WW1 and WW2. Different times, different people, different circumstances.
Anyway, I'm learning that history is like religion and is taken seriously sometimes. For those who are into the Fil-Am war era, I just ask that the verbage and undertones of future Fil-Am topic postings be sensitive to readers who might take things the wrong way.
I'm sticking my neck out on this one. I don't want to curtail free speech nor dictate how free speech is spoken, but I do want people to get along in this forum. Thank you so much for understanding, just bear with me on this one as a personal favor.
Cheers! -victor

We have a value over on the WW2 forum. It involves, speaking as you would like to be spoken to. It also involves believing the best about someone and the importance of maintaining good relationships.
I have a hard time with this one at times, and I moderate the board.
It is a great way to treat fellow enthusiast, but can take alot of work on both sides of an issue.
Having that experience, I don't see you stomping on peoples freedom of speech. I do see an effort to keep this a great place to discuss this subject.
Thanks for your efforts!!
