Our group Gil, Jun and me set up and pitched tent at 6 am ! Event Opened to the Public at 8 am, so we had 2 hours to get everything ready. We set up right next to the Marine and National Guard booths. This was first participation in the biggest Filipino event in the LA county or Southern California.
We had the most unique historical USAFFE PS camp/display on the entire event grounds as every one had basically commercial booths selling a product and tents set up by the city. We probably had all the Filipino newspaper photographers for the county of LA taking dozens of photos of us with vets and the organizers. I lost count. Again I never got even use my camera as all the other guys wanted to have their cameras taken by someone, just like in San Fran. So many photographs taken and I don’t have a single one in my cam. I have to hope for others to send me theirs.
At 10:30 am the Philippine Scouts Living history Company’s squad member’s Gil, Jun, James Mislang and me participated in the Ceremonial and cultural parade. Bing Dela Vega was “holding the fort” keeping an eye on all our displays.
We marched in a parade in review around the park just like at Fort MacArthur and Marching through History in front of a Grand stand. A lot of the flags of the Color guards and participants got caught in the stage fiesta streamers. Including our PS Div. flag also got tangled on the streamers but we still got a lot of photos.
We had a extremely full busy day talking to so many fellow Filipinos young and old all thanking us for our efforts to remind the public of who we represented. We had vets stay around our tent and share us their stories. Visitors who had relatives in the USAFFE or PS enjoyed our display and mentioned about their scarifices. A group of four younger generation, one an ROTC color guard member brought along his friends and wanted to know all about the history and sacrifice of the Scouts in Bataan. I gave them a crash course on all the facts with the map of Bataan as a starting point. The one and only Filipina had a very interesting question I have to research on.
Our V for Victory setup of the US and Philippine flags with USAFFE & PSHS display signs became a photo location spot for everyone. With our set of two pitched rifle tripod displays was a major attraction too. We had two garands and four Springfields on display.
We was also very surprising I got meet briefly was the Secretary of PS a few of his members of the Loyd Mills Chapter and they trying to gather more members to activate their chapter. I apologized for not having to talk to him longer as everything was happening all at the same time in out tent with so many to attend too.
Dr. Jenny Batongmalaque came and visited our PS tent display along with her Secretary and discussed the event she is planning late in July. She was part of the organizing committee and was on the Grand stand, also loved and enjoyed our display.
I also got to briefly meet the overall chairman of the planning committee Emil Ramos Loyola who was very impressed with our unique display that he promised us an even better and more strategic location for our camp display next year. Hopefully next year we will have a 30 cal watercooled MG and a Jeep as added new attractions.
And I got to meet briefly the outgoing Mayor of Carson Jim Dear and the incoming Mayor Mike A. Gipson who came by to congradulate us on our camp display and participation as PS too.
We had a new member Louis Joseph Cogut who immedietly signed up/ paid and was very interested in our role and objectives of the chapter as a living history group. He would be perfect to play the role of a PS officer and a gentleman. Plus his well use of the Tagalog language.
There were two more gentlemen who were very interested in joining us and both of them participate at the Fort Mac event Marc Lawrence MP reenactor who is an instructor in Martial Arts and the other a young Filipino American youth who’s PS grandfather is still with him and has does volunteer duty as a security patrol for crowds and parking.
Past 5 pm - We dismantled our encampment after a most successful event I have ever experience. All the hard work and fatigue paid off for that single day we were overwhelmed with visitors and VIP’s to our USAFFE PS camp.
Chapter members I would like to thank are, Bing De la Vega his very first time to participate as a PS who arrived dressed with his Class A khaki uniform tailored made in the P. I. And who also guarded our camp when we had patrol duties around the park grounds.
Jun Mislang for his valuable participation and coming in early to help set up camp and gladly assist inform/educated the visitors on the role of the scouts legacy. And his son James was super helpful in all occasions. A loyal member at that!
I would like to thank again Gil Mislang for everything, committing us into this huge event and finally providing the food and refreshments too. What I enjoyed the most was the reward of having my efforts being welcomed, recognizing and appreciation on the objectives of our Society by Filipino American community . Mabuhay ang Philippine Scouts!

I will check who has photos of our USAFFE PS camp specially the LA based Filipino newspapers and try to post them soon.
