This is a Philippine revolutionary war veterans medal still pinned on its original threefold manila paper envelope. The medal has a light blue ribbon backing with a yellow bottom fringe attached to an ornate brass frame atop the tricolor ribbon from which the name of the veteran is affixed.

Hello Rolly, As a direct descendant of a great Filipino patriot and general of the Philippine Revolution and Fil-Am War, we are very honored to have you with us in this forum. I do have some photos already posted of your grandfather pinoyhistory.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=othereras&action=display&thread=1153821729These photos were sent to me by our friend Art Garcia who has relatives from both the Macabebe Scouts as well as from the Philippine revolutionary army. One of his grand uncles from his mother's side I believe may have actually served under General Cailles' command. I could reprint them and send the pictures to you. It would also be nice if you can send a photo of yourself. I plan to open a thread of Philippine Revolutionary heroes' pictures next to pictures of their living descendants. For Example: This is a photo of Abner Luna in rayadillo uniform taken in 2006. Next to him on the left is a picture of his famous grandfather, General Antonio Luna. (see the resemblance?)I will try to recollect my sources of information about Cailles and write them down in this forum. The bulk of them which mention him and asses his value as "an enemy" general were from accounts of American soldiers and reporters in books published by the Americans themselves, during or shortly after the war itself. From all accounts, the Americans really respected your grandpa for his humane treatment of U.S. prisoners and his real ability as an adversary to cause them military problems. There is an old proverb which says...." The valor of our enemies do us honor". I don't think the Americans thought much about Aguinaldo and many other Filipinos as worthy opponents, but certainly they regarded Cailles highly enough to make him a governor of Laguna after the war. I personally have not yet come across any specific article written in more recent times about Juan Cailles, but for now, some sources I can point out to you are: 1) "Philippine Campaigns" by Col. Uldarico Baclagon, where I first read about Cailles. 2) "Philippine Army, first hundred years" a 1998 offical publication of the AFP, a few references to Cailles on page 19 and his victory in Sta. Cruz, Laguna (on September 7, 1900) on page 35.

Hi macky! I don't exactly know who owned this medal because there is no name written on the framed white piece of cardboard. My own lolo was born in 1897 so he couldn't have been a Philippine revolution or Fil-Am war veteran. My own hunch is that my father swapped it for something from a "veterano" shortly after the war. My father being a young veteran of WW2 was well exposed to meet them on occcasion. (see picture). My father (sitting) posing with two "veteranos" in front of the steps to the mausoleum for the veterans of the Philippine revolution at the North Cemetery in Manila. The particular medal which I featured was made by the El Oro company in 1947, so it's fairly recent. Apparently, there were still enough living veteranos de la revolucion' shortly after WW2. If one was a 20 year-old katipunero in 1898 he'd be pushing 70 by 1947. Aguinaldo himself lived until 1964.

Hi Rolly! I'm Chrys Lacap, one of the great grand daughter of General Juan Cailles from his 7th daughter Lorenza, I have some pictures of him when he was young. In our ancestral house, we have a picture of the General in his old days and a wooden bust which was given to us in 2002 if I remember it right during the ribbon cuting ceremonies of the battle of Mabitac shrine. Gen. Juan Cailles has a shrine in Mabitac, Laguna with his bust in it.

Hello Cris, Even though a new member myself may I add a a big welcome along with the vet. members! amen to Victors request for pictures. A picture of you with the bust would be great. I did suggest in 1998 before the Commemoration took place that a Nat. TV station produce a prog. showing living 'lookalike' descendants of Heroes of The Revolution. I don't think it was taken up? It would still make a good 30min. prog. even now. Also I repeat there is still no central source listing the location of the Shrines, Monuments and personal memorabilia anywhere. Very little help on Phil Tourist web of Nat Hist. web. Perhaps a thread/new topic could open on that?

Thanks Dimasalang, for your list. Alas I have searched this site before & it does not list commemorative statues of heroes of the phil. 1898-04 or WW2. Gens. Pau, Lacuna, Ricarte, & Alejandrino to mention a few can be found if you search long and persistently enough, but it should not be made that hard! I once stumbled across a set of photos of the American/Phil. War on a US Army website, a searched down a series of threads to discover a photo of a bronze Statue in Nuerva Ecjia of Gen. M. Lucuna. I was unable to downlad it at the time & now try as I might, I can't find it's location!--David
