First of all, apologies for the rather heavy japanese bias in the photos of this report. We got rather carried away as you shall see later in this report:
After having wrapped up preparations for everything. I went to bed at around midnight to get the 4 hours of sleep i promised myself for the next day. It was not to be. A mosquito decided to make my night miserable and so with heavy eyelids, I woke to messages from the gathering reenactors.
Due to a few transport hiccups we were finally on the way to trinoma to load up on the bus MD Juan provided. (thanks to Tad, Dax, Jojo and everyone else who helped shuttle the waiting reenactors to the rally point.) Breakfast was served en route.
Early morning was spent gathering and organizing the gear, correcting uniforms and making sure everyone had the right period correct gear given what supplies we had. A football tournament sudeenly took over the designated reenactment site so we had to haul ass and get the equipment set up in front of the stotsenburg museum. Kudos to the pyro guys who calmly took everything down and set up again at the new site further down the parade ground.
Many thanks to those who brought loaner gear, the two Jojo's, Perry, and the Ortegas bent over backwards to help out.
While the pyro worked out the explosive and squibb placement, jnmodeler and I paced out the field to figure out the approximate positions, the rest of the guys followed and soon we were running about practicing for the coming show. Audio had to be installed at the site, and the MD Juan technicians went to work jury rigging a sound system for us. (Many many thanks to them).
Eventually the stage was set for our first battle re-enactment.
I'll continue the report as more material comes in. Meanwhile:
Sarge checks out the barbed wire before the attack:
Medic: "quit grinnin sarge! the japs are coming. you sure that wire's gonna hold them?"
Record numbers were in attendance. Many thanks guys!
waiting for the enemy:
Now There's a real reenactor! Veteran David regales the younger ones with his stories:
41st division denim blues:
Medic shows off his legs:
reinforcements arrive:
USAFFE defenders after the battle the smoke still hangs low over the battlefield:
The smiles show it all...
While most of the reenactors headed off to the bottomless lechon lunch, the IJA contingent decided to flex some new muscle and do a photo shoot:
Off they went singing and marching:
For a commemorative photo by the old stotsenburg parade ground marker:
Tenno Heika! BANZAI!
Clark security looked pretty worried, but we went on anyway...Banzai! Banzai!
After the photo shoot, the japanese went back to march order and headed for the mess:
Blackdragon promptly took his men up the stage and announced that the Imperial Army was taking over the festivities:
we then dug in and continued our photo shoot rampage. meanwhile Dan snuck his IJA and enka disks and took over the entertainment.
There was an impromptu staging of General King's surrender which took ages for want of a period pen...
If i catch you with un-dyed puttee straps again its suicide duty for you BAKERO!
And the japanese party continued:
We did have time for 1 serious photo:
Contests were the order of the day. The first was a military vehicle contest:
The crowd grew happier as the cold beer arrived:
a cosplay type fashion show was also on the program with CASH PRICES! lucky devils...
the two jojo's and i sat in judgement:
medic struts his stuff:
Perry looks as if he's about to break into song:
and then the IJA contingent ACTUALLY DOES:
don't worry folks, i think the crowd loved it.
The MD Juan crowd really knows how to throw a party:
With gift bags even:
Thank God we had nurses this time:
Dan takes it all in:
David offers his thanks to everyone...looking forward to bigger events:
Some souvenir photos:
"you there!"
Perry really looked the part.another evil twin???!!!
"UTE!"
that's all for now folks! More photos coming soon!
