The final chapter of Pvt. Nisperos story has ended to a joyous celebration! I am happy for you and your family Maridhel! A truly unforgetable saga of the first Filipino, Scout and Asian to received the Congressional Medal of Honor!
Please show photos of the condition of the medal? From what I know the ribbon is long gone.
Next should be the the display of his uniform for the people of his hometown to appreciate his sacrifice and service.

dear maridel
i am so happy to learn that the u.s. medal of honor was finally brought back to its rightful heir. it has caused me so many sleepless nights not to have won that bid one fine day in 2010 at that pnas auction. but little did i know that God made me an instrument to right a wrong and bring tremendous happiness to you and your family. how ironic that that the little sadness i experienced 2 years ago brought incredible happiness to a complete stranger and her family. what an incredible, austounding story indeed.
maridel may i request one thing? as one stranger walked an extra mile for you to recover that sacred medal, if you can, pay it back in kind to another stranger who would need your help in the future.
although i would like to remain anonymous, maybe someday we could meet and reminisce how this incredible story unfolded
it would be nice to post pictures of the medal (front and back) in this website if you could.
go with God. Shalom!

maridel
i do plan to go to la union one day and and see pvt nisperos' gravesite and of course THE medal. if i decide to go, i will let you know so you can give me a private tour and maybe meet your mayor. i am sure i will feel at home as i am myself a G.I. -genuine ilocano. my father is from vigan and my mother is from curimao.however i grew up here in manila but i am interested to go back to the land of my forebearers and discover my roots.makaawat ak ti ilokano ngem basit laeng ti amok nga sauen (i'm sure i spelled the ilocano words incorrectly)
to tell you the truth, i was so worried that the medal would not be returned to you inspite of my efforts that i purchased a replica from england (via ebay). i was planning to send you the replica just in case "negotiations" for the return would fall apart.
the story of the return of the first u.s. medal of honor to a filipino (and asian for that matter) to its rightful heirs after 89 years is so incredible and surreal somebody should write about it! (if i have time i will be the one to write about it myself). what started as a hotly contested bidding war between me and collector"e" in a phil. numismatic and antiquarian auction last 2010 resulted in the return of one of the most sought after medal in the philippines to its rightful heirs. my hat is off for collector "e"'s magnanimous gesture. he is a true gentleman.
who knows, next year, collector "e" and me will be there together in la union to attend the first anniversary of nisperos' reinternment? nothing is impossible.
let us all celebrate this " miracle" and enjoy the moment.

So ring that Victory Bell! to Maridhel and her Family I dedicate this hymn.
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.
I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel; “As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel, Since God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet; Our God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free; [originally …let us die to make men free] While God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave, He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave; So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave, Our God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

dr. snowpy,
i am glad to know that you are a g.i. as myself and apong lakay jose b. nisperos..i also studied in vigan for 2 years and i took up certificate in religious education with the benedictine sisters in pantay fatima, vigan. what part in vigan is your father's place, dr.? my sister's husband is also from vigan..have a lot of friends there..yearly we go there for vacation with the kids..
truly collector "e" is a real gentleman..giving up the medal from his possession to be given back to us is a real gentlemanly gesture..and mabait po siya talaga together with his parents..he didn't know naman po the real story of the medal before it was auctioned so out of pure intention that the medal will be preserved here in the philippines so he tried po to win the auction..
you're welcome po tlaga here in la union..by that time the military museum initiated by our city mayor will be established and all the articles, papers etc etc pertaining to apong lakay jose will be seen and taken cared in the museum for people to see and be proud of..
i am not also that good in ilocano spelling, dr..important is MAAWATAN URAY NU BASSIT LAENG TI AMMOM A SAOEN hehe i am not sure of my spelling too..
i am also inspired and motivated to write a book about the story and history of apong lakay's family and everything that happened to us until june 7 the day of victory..GLORY TO GOD D BA PO?..if anything is impossible with man, WITH GOD EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH OUR UNCEASING PRAYERS, STEADFAST HEART IN TRUSTING GO'D GOODNESS, GREATNESS, MAJESTY.. He is true to his promises to us his children.. it is a big testimony on my part and our present generation, dr..
the search for justice and recognition for apong jose's legacy to our country and even to the u.s.a. started as MY PROMISE TO MY LOLA GUIA (lolo jose's 1st daughter) and who is my mama's mother...apong jose had 3 daughters who took care of us when we were growing up.. they were LOLA GUIA ESPERANZA NISPEROS-DOMINE (died in 1990, and had been blind for 25 years before her death), LOLA LEONILA FLORA CASUGA NISPEROS (died in 2004) an old maid and NANAY CONCEPCION NISPEROS-VILLANUEVA (died in 2000)..my mama VIRGINIA NISPEROS DOMINE-VIDUYA (lolo jose only daughter, died in 2006)..i promised them all that i will find justice and recognition due to apong jose..yes, until that day of jubilation june 7 when the medal was returned to us and the city of san fernando, province of la union by collector "e" and his family..
i actually have written an article in 1979, i was in grade 5 and wrote it in my journal that time.the title of the article was "THE FORGOTTEN HERO AND THE LOST MEDAL"...so i am really inspired to write a book to complete the story of apong jose and his medal.. will you sponsor it, dr? hehe!!!
i really love to see you po with collector "e"..eto po new cp number ko po..please communicate when you plan to come here and visit apong's new gravesite and the medal of course.. smart number- 09394214401..globe - 09274178874.. thanks po sa lahat ng effort dr despite nagalit ako sa'yo nun hehe..kc nga po akala ko ikaw na nakabili po medal...sorry po!
GOD BLESS PO AND HIS NAME BE GLORIFIED IN ALL THINGS, AT ALL TIMES AND IN ALL PLACES FOREVER!!!!

My Thanks and Congratulations to all of you.
Can a copy of image of the catalog listing the medal be posted or e-mailed to me. And also the the photo of the front and rear of the medal.
I would like to send this in a report to the Medal of Honor Society here in the US who I informed about its loss.
May I suggest that an 8X10 color photo print be made for display of the medal in public. And the original brought out only on special occasions. Also suggest an air-tight medal display case to prevent oxidization and preserve the medal.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang Philippine Scouts.

the mayor said it will be good so all his stuff will be placed in the museum plus the papers of lolo which are in my safekeeping.. Strongly suggest "duplicates" of the original papers be made to put on display and the originals be stored in acid free sleeves and zip-lock bagged in a light proof box to preserve.

Deepest profound sorrow is what your family must be feeling for the lost of such a award but i would like to offer hope and maybe a way to replace what is rightfully yours Requesting Replacement Awards ands Medals Requests for the issuance or replacement of military service medals, decorations, and awards should be directed to the specific branch of the military in which the veteran served. However, for Air Force (including Army Air Corps) and Army personnel, the National Personnel Records Center will verify the awards to which a veteran is entitled and forward the request with the verification to the appropriate service department for issuance of the medals. The eVetRecs is preferred for requesting medals and awards. Provide as much information as possible in the comments field. Should you prefer to submit your request using a SF180 then provide as much information as possible and send the form to the appropriate address Where to write for medals National Personnel Records Center 9700 Page Avenue St. Louis, MO 63132-5100 Where medals are mailed from U.S. Army TACOM Clothing and Heraldry (PSID) P.O. Box 57997 Philadelphia, PA 19111-7997 Where to write in case of a problem or an appeal Commander U.S. Army Human Resources Command Attn: TAPC-PDO-PA 200 Stovall Street Alexandria, VA 22332-0474 Link to SF 180 www.archives.gov/research/order/standard-form-180.pdf. Bravery under overwhelming adversity is what makes your ancestor special. A little medal is nothing compared to what he accomplished. however We know what value it will be for your family to have this. Hopefully this information can help you in some way to take back what was stolen from your family.

They may be able to request a ribbon.
But it may be faster to order a replica ribbon on the web for the display...
