We just completed the celebration of the 150th birthday of Dr Jose Rizal. It was a memorable event and hopefully the lives we touched will forever be changed and re awaken the nationalism of every Filipino.
Apparently even close relatives of our hero had questions regarding the first Philippine republican army which we hopefully were able to answer. Mabuhay BNK!!!

Well done, all of you! Many thanks for the photos Medic! Im so proud of my nieces, family & friends coming down from Angeles City, Pampanga to take part in their 1st outing with the BNK. (They are in the white uniforms of "Heneral Agueda Kahabagan's Lifeguard". Not too sure about the french style kepi, as I think a Burri hat would have displayed at least one of the officers minus a peaked cap and wearing field dress. I know, I'm nit-picking ha ha! Love the B/W pics also as they look like the real thing. Lets hope some of the spectators were inspired enough to join us. I take it from the lack of them, the actors from Ft. Santiago did not want to fratrenise with you all. Their loss. Salute!

Thanks, gentlemen. Believe me, it wasn't easy taking photos. There would have been more if the rain let up, I was only able to shoot (pun intended; I was a sniper after all, hehheh) when the rain let up enough, and that was few and far between. Like true re-enactors, we didn't want to be seen carrying umbrellas! We actually had to do some forced marches and runs to shelter through heavy downpour. Soaked to the skin we were at the end of the day.

Splendid turnout amigos, sorry I couldn't make it there.
Did any of Dr. Jose Rizal's descendants look like him?
David, so wonderful of your nieces & family friends to dress up in revolutionary garb and be counted for our noble cause, ha, ha.
BTW Dennis, nice impression of ex-French Foreign Legionnaire turned Filipino rayadillo. ;D

Here are more pictures from the event, to begin with here are some portrait shot by Bong Manayon a professional photographer in intramuros. my daugther Nina Nicolas Jackie Dy Jojo Dy - As Gen. Paua, a Chinese General who served under Gen. Aguinaldo. He made several paltik guns for the revolution. He is wearing the Filipino Style Rayadillo Uniform designed by Gen. Antonio Luna & his brother, the Nat'l Artist Juian Luna. He is also wearing a white officer's hat called Curacha. Notice the officer's sun botton he is wearing (a button with a sun with a face, with 3 stars & 3 mountains). Me, Jojo Nicolas- Infantry Brig. General in Khaki Uniform with a design or cut similar to the Rayadillo design of Antonio Luna. Khaki became popular uniform replacing the Rayadillo starting 1899 He is also wearing a white officer's hat called Curacha Dennis Nicolas- A Spanish Army officer wearing the Spanish Rayadillo. His head gear replicates the Spanish Teresiana hat. Teddy Anatalio- Filipino Republican Army, in Rayadillo Uniform & wearing a captured Spanish Mausser Webbing & notice the triangle insignia on his hat - this is the 1st Coat of Arms of the Philippine Army in 1897, a 3 stars, a sun with a face inside a triangle. Ha, ha, ha, glad to know the kaiser's imperial government was represented in honor of herr Doktor Rizal....PREUSSENS GLORIA! Great photos Jojo. You can ovalize and bevell the edges in some of the portait shots, they give a more "victorian" look to them, such lovely children........

No wonder the Professional actors at Ft. Santiago had so much resentment & envy of the BNK! Once they clapped eyes on our young ladies, they where banished to the shadows!!

Congratulations to everyone with the BNK troops and troupe.
With my son-in-law Nikki dela Torre joining up with David Banaghan's family members, Perry Javier's wife and son and yaya (in Rayadillo uniform!), then Jojo Dy's daughter Jackie, and Jojo Nicolas' son Erich and daughter Nina, it became a family affair. Kudos to all participants despite the wet and shivery evening. Too bad RayAdillo couldn't join his brother Manny wear the pickelhaube of the Prussians and Hessians.
It definitely was an affair to remember. We should plan another gathering like this just to make more authentic reenactment poses with the great Intramuros architecture in the background! Perhaps the group could help organize or setup a historical reenactment and cos-play event (for the first time) at the same site when it's not too hectic or too rainy. That would be very interesting for the general public to attend.

Friends;
Thank you for attending, inspite of the heavy rain, no one had stopped us. The descendants of Rizal, Irene Marcos Araneta, Lisa Bayot & the organizers Ria Limhap & Cicey & even some actors of Rizal play really appreciated us allot. We had made a difference, they saw us & experience being with us for the 1st time & they are really very thankful.
It would have been a better performance if it does not rain, but that's beyond our control.
I congratulate & thank everyone for being part of this historical event.
Actually we have missed many reenactment scenes because of the rain. Irene Marcos Araneta & Lisa Bayot even wished we can go up at Ft. Santiago's Facsade & do some reenactment scene like waiving a flag, shooting, etc... Although it didn't happen in history that the Filipinos took Ft. Santiago, but just a drama photo scene. But because of the rain, we missed many beautiful reenactment scene I had listed in my notes. I even bought a skull & Jojo bought a feather pen & Nel bouhgt a table for a Katipunan recruitment & blood compact / initiation scene. Maybe we can do these photo shoots in the future.
Someone has also invited us to be part of the opening / screening of the film "Amigo" of John Sayles about the Phil-Am War by wearing the revolutionary uniforms. I'll tell you the details once I received the complete information.

Perry, Great news about the invite to the premier of "Imigo"! I will ask if my Squad from Angeles if they can make it. The re-enactment scenes can take place later I think. Dr Cesar Martinez, looked just great as Tiradores Pvt. but i feel he should have the badge on his hat as he was a member of an elite unit.
