Invitation to the PSHS reunion as color guards

We've been invited to the 23rd annual Philippine Scout Heritage Society reunion to serve as honor guards. Thanks to Art Garcia of Tacoma, Washington for thinking of us. I have not met him in person, only through email. You guys have met him at the last Fort MacArthur Days event.

The reunion will be in Tacoma, Washington on May 18th-19th, 2007. Details are still sketchy and I'm trying to find out more. However below is the email I received as forwarded to me by Art. It was addressed to Ray.

Dear Mr. Ortega:

I am Jose "Joe" Calugas, Jr. , President of the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society in Tacoma, WA. Your name and e-mail address was sent to me by e-mail by Mr. Arturo Garcia. I am inviting you and your group to attend the 23rd National Annual Reunion of the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society (PSHS) in Tacoma, WA. on May 18-19, 2007.

I am inviting your group to be a color guard to the Reunion. Mr. Arturo Garcia will provide food and lodging.

While this will be tough for my own schedule, I am really very grateful for the invitation and will try my best to attend alongside you guys there in the West Coast.

It is an excellent opportunity to honor the real Philippine Scouts, the veterans we hold with such high respect. They are dwindling in number and this is an opportunity for us to let them know that their legacy lives on; that there are people like us who appreciate their sacrifices and will keep the memory alive in our own little ways.

Once in a life time event to participate as color guard for the elite veteran Philippine Scouts. I am ready to report for duty! ;D

Just waiting from the sound off from everyone to join. I hope everyone can make it for the sake of the greatest generation our WWII vets.

I'm not sure if Ray has had a chance to respond to Joe Calugas yet so I took the opportunity to acknowledge his invitation, along with a request for more information (eg. event or program schedule, and exact venue).

I just didn't want an invitation to a dream event like that hanging

Below is an update from Joe Calugas. It doesn't look like we're needed on Friday since it's the business meeting. The panel discussions on Saturday would be very interesting to attend since this is where the vets talk about their experiences and answer questions from people.

Dear Mr. Verano:

Thank you for your plans to attend our PSHS National Reunion on May 18-19, 2007.

On Friday May 18, this will be an annual National meeting of the board of officers. Saturday May 19 will be panel discussion and the dinner. The dinner, program and Dance will start at 6:00 PM -12:30 PM. We need a color guards at the dinner program. Two color guards will be Ok to carry the Philippine flag and the American Flag.

We will have the reunion at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Tacoma, Washington. Attached is the Registration forms. I will present this to our next chapter meeting on March. Mr. Arturo Garcia has plans while you are
here. Let me know, if you have any questions.

Aside from being the color guards and posing for photo opps for guests and members, maybe we should also do usher duties I wonder how else we can enhance the event...

Maybe Philip can set up his display there as well.

HI Vic,

Thanks for the email as I showed them to Teddy and Ray. Been nust this week showing Dr. Jenny Fort MAcArthur and discussing the Bataan /Corregidor event for April.

I just spoke to Art Garcia plus emailed him too this Sunday night and told who is ready to join and mentioned about the flag poles and rifles.

I'm still trying figure out how we can get a substitute flag poles to use there in Seattle. As ours are home made and cannot be broken down and dismantled to carry.

Another issue are rifles and Bayonets we will need there. If we are flying that is a problem we cannot bring ours.

Yes Maybe I can bring my display specially my 1/6 PS Cavalry figure. If I don't have too much baggage to deal with.

Flying with rifles is not problem if you have a locked hardcase and declare it at check-in. It will be inspected and a tag will be put inside. Should not be a problem even in CA.

Hey guys:

Just a quick post to let you know we are forming a Color Guard on behalf of the USS CAVALLA (WWII) in Texas ... however, we are interested in enlarging this into an honor platoon that would cover Phillipine Scouts and draw in interested personnel to help us perform during Memorial / Veterans Day.
