This forum's been extremely helpful for my research for costume designs, and has helped me deal with the difficult task of costuming Andres Bonifacio.
Next on my list, not as difficult, but still important is Emilio Jacinto. In terms of reference, we have a picture of Jacinto's body, and there is the popular painting of Jacinto, dressed in what looks like a Rayadillo uniform with a strange double buttoned standing collar.
I'd like some insight regarding appropriate uniforms for Jacinto, particularly near the period of Bonifacio's death.
My initial plan is to just dress him in an off-white cotton canvas jacket (pre-Revolutionary Army), with a standing collar and brass buttons. (I'll do away with the double buttons on the collar found in the painting.) I like the idea of using vertical pockets, because they're basically for maps and documents. This is particularly appropriate for a writer like Jacinto.
I've never seen that in any Katipunan photo.) For effect and to emphasize his rank, I'll give him off-white breeches and black boots, even if the photo doesn't show him wearing boots. (Although that may just be because he's dead, and doesn't have any footwear.)
I was thinking of giving him a black Teresiana cap, which he seems to be wearing in his funeral photo.
(As a side note, part of my eventual goal is to contrast Bonifacio and Jacinto with Aguinaldo and Gregorio Del Pilar, so I want their uniforms to be distinct, but at par with each other.)
Here are some specific concerns:
1. Would it be appropriate to use the Katipunan cuff insignias for Jacinto? If so, what rank is appropriate? Is Brigadier General correct?
2. What accessories/belts/holsters/lanyards are appropriate for Jacinto?
Again, thank you very much! I've been enjoying this forum immensely.
