In the book catalog for the U.S. Naval Institute (I'm a life member), I noticed a new book which is due to be published about October 1st, "Racing the Sunrise: Reinforcing America's Pacific Outposts, 1941-1942" by Glen Williford.
As I haven't read (or even received) the book, I can't go into "specifics". The "blurb" in the catalog says that it discusses the attempt to reinforce the Pacific garrisons, specificly Hawaii and the Philippines in the six months before the start of hostilities and several months after. It specifies Bataan and Corregidor in early 1942.
Generally, the Naval Institute doesn't publish "junk" and I'm looking forward to a well-written book. I have a passing knowledge of the authjor, who I believe has written books on the subject of coast artillery before and is a member of the Coast Defense Study Group.
The book is over 400 pages and should cover the subject in some detail. I'm going on vacation in October and hope I can receive this book before I leave. I'll post a detailed review when I get back, if I get it in time.
