The Virginia Museum of Military Vehicles had it's open house last weekend August 21 & 22. We proudly represented the Philippines as soldiers of the 57th Infantry Philippine Scouts.
I started setting the camp on Friday by pitching two tents. We were given a 105mm howitzer and a White Scout car for our display.
Pictures are being uploaded and will follow.

Here are some pictures from the event. We're lost... People ask if we're cooking adobo in that antique pot. A beautiful Scout car! Lots of ammo for my Browning MG. This is Mike, a new member of our group. A former marine, he specialize in Japanese militaria and restoration of samurai. German and Filipina medic/nurse.

Nice pictures Don. You've been busy with reenacting events this year! Bataan tactical at Louisa, VA... Saipan battle at Gettysburg.... Tank Farm event... Do you want to check out the cavalry event at Front Royal, VA on Oct. 2nd? That's not too far away from Ashburn.

Do they have a website for the Front Royal Cavalry event? I want to check the participants, usually in Virginia it's the civil war era.

Greetings Gentlemen, Here are a couple of pictures from the VMMV 2010 Open House It was a great day for the Open House. A little hot but not too humid. This was the first time that we set up a camp. Don and I did a lot of preparations to come up with a decent encampment and it was well worth it. We were easily recognized as Philippine Scouts, which was great. We also saw a couple of guys from the Louisa tactical reenactments. We are thankful that the museum lent us their M3A1 Scout car and their 105mm howitzer as part of our display. Don's M1919A4 was very popular with the kids. A lot had their photos taken manning the MG nest. It was Mike's reenactment debut here in Virginia. We met him at a gunshow selling WWII Japanese items. Of course Jay was there and he was the star of the firepower display where he demonstrated the performance of the M-1 Garand versus the Japanese bolt action rifle. In addition Don's daughter Kathryn was in attendance as a nurse. We enjoyed our selves a lot and are looking forward to next years open house. Our Tent The Machine gun Emplacement Jay and Mike cutting bamboo for Mike's camouflage Banzai! On top of abandoned M3 Mike and I Kathryn attending to a wounded Jay Japanese on the offensive Fending of the enemy Mike-san in full combat gear milspec

About our tent...
We made several attempts make the OD color to fade by bleaching it, then we were suppose to dye it khaki. The bleach didn't work, any suggestions?
BTW, the tents were blown away when a US Army Blackhawk helicopter landed. One of the crew a Filipino, Specialist Navarro apologized to us. I had to re-pitch the open tent with one section of the pole missing.

Hi Don,
Either just buy a white canvass tarp from a home depot there. Or have one made of white canvass as much as possible 100 % cotton and copying your tent specs. or have it made bigger. To accomodate more of your group/ displays and visitors inside. It has to be 100% cotton to fully absorbed the dyes completely.
The tent you guys used at Fort Mac, we had to heat the water over a steel drum until it was steaming hot, not boiling, as the tent was 20 X 20 feet. We used a lot of bottles of dyes from the grocery and it was all just trial and error in the dye mix until we got it as close as khaki color. - As when the canvass is still wet, this will make you belive you finally got the right shade. When you let it dry overnight to see there is a hige difference of Khaki Color will become a lot lighter from the wet stage. it's all trial and error getting the best final khaki shade.
I know they sell those khaki colored pup tents issued to the French Army. But those are small. The Foreign Legion reenactment group has them in their camp set up.
Hope this helps.
Philip

When I was a little boy I recall there being an American tank at the side of the railway track outside London Bridge Station that was used as a pillbox during the war. It was removed in the 1960's & I thought it was scrapped or sold off. I discovered its relocated home just a week ago as my wife and I went looking for a new apartment to buy in the borough just 2 miles south of the station. In an overgrown triangle patch at the end of a road tucked off in a side street from the busy main road; there it rested with its original white star long since buried under layers of multi-coloured paint and graffitte. I will ask if it can be given a more dignified location. Photos I will send to Dee.
