FORT Bonifacio , Metro Manila - The Philippine Army will commemorate the 59th Anniversary of the Battle of Yuldong on Friday, April 23, at the Korean Memorial Pylon in Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The event will be graced by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Delfin Bangit as the activity's Guest of Honor and Korean Ambassador to the Philippines , Mr. Choi Joong-Kyung will be one of the co-honorees. They will be joined by the veteran soldiers belonging to the 10th Battalion Combat Team (BCT) which is part of the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (Peftok) and the President of the Peftok Veterans Association, Inc. (PVAI), which is the only active association of Filipino-Korean veterans.
The Philippines-South Korea bond was formed during the Korean War in 1950 to 1955, when the Philippines participated in helping South Korea save their country from the communist North Korea and Mainland China . During the great Yuldong Battle, the first unit to battle against the Chinese 12th Army was the 10th BCT, wherein 100 of the 900 soldiers lost their lives. In the end, about 700 Filipino soldiers died during the Korean War. The Battle of Yuldong was just one of the many victories of Peftok during the Korean War. They remained undefeated in all their encounters against North Korea and China .
Highlighting the activity is the wreath laying ceremony which will be followed by a commemorative program dedicated to the heroes of the Korean War. It will be held in front of the Korean Memorial Pylon.
The Philippine Army pays tribute to the bravery, heroism, and selfless act of our heroes during the Korean War. These soldiers who sacrificed their lives will always remain as a great inspiration to the present soldiers of the country. #
