Posting for David (Insurrectomad)
--------------
Alas the big painting of the solo WW2 pilot who engaged the japs in the air (and downing a couple I think), was not on display on the top floor of the Angeles Museum, as this area has been given over to trad. households and native cooking. It's currently in store awaiting a new location for display.
There is now a small booklet at P25 about the building and related history.
The US soldier (Pvt. Lawrence Hayden or H. Lawrence ?) held prisoner on the ground floor in WW2 had escaped the Death -March and fled into the hills to be betrayed some time later to the Japs.
I hope you enjoy the photos I did take anyway. 1st = outside view. 2nd etc = Danny's paintings. 5, 6, 7, = large photos of some of Pampanga's Generals 1896-1902. that are on display. The rest include a diorama of Spaniards walking a 'rebel' to the place of execution ( the cathedral's rear wall, across the rd from the museum), Cheers David

One exhibit contains the photos of a Spanish officer who joined the republican army after Gen. Luna's action to invite POW's to fight the Americans as comrades in arms under Republican command. Appointed a capt., he ended his career as a general in Spain. On display is one of his medals. The Uni. across the rd also has some fine historical items including a 16th cent canon and the remains of a US plane's Machine gun. There is also The Library with some of the rare books about the 1896-1904 period that are equal to those in Manila. Salute! David
