Hey Vic....Just a tidbit on those cherry trees. I remember distinctly that within days after Pearl Harbor was attacked some strident voices were calling for each and every tree to pulled up and burned. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed. Some of said voices weren't just the guy on the corner. They included members of the media, etc. Probably some congressman, government employees, etc. were also calling for this drastic, but symbolic action.

Okla, I thought about that when we were there. I was wondering which three trees were cut down by the "hot heads". If I remember correctly three were indeed cut down.

Hey Vic....I think you are, indeed, correct. A few were destroyed in the post Pearl Harbor frenzy. It would have been a shame if all, or most, had been chopped down and sent up in flames, but one can understand the mind set in those first hours following the breaking of the horrific news from the Pacific. It was a crazy couple of days. I am glad that I can remember parts of that time with a bit of clarity. I still don't understand why our Private Teed stands out so vividly to this day. Cheers.
