A long thread I know, but don't think it can be shorter. have you also noticed that their is scant illustrations or even photos of Filipino soldiers depicted of the 1898-1902--6? War? I think it is time Publishers of Osprey's and magazines like Military Illustrated were offered a package of coloured photos and illustrations showing the many varied Regimental and Regional uniforms worn. Still the war in the Philippines is portrayed as an afterthought to be tagged on to the Cuban conflict. This is despite the fact that "our" war lasted at lot longer, involved a greater number of troops and had a larger casualty total. The Filipino Republican Army is always just a footnote. Still they are referred to as Insurgents more often than not and the war is always labeled The Phil. Insurrection, even when dealing with the regular Republican Army fighting the American invaders! The Superb collection of Perry's (BNK) Photos of differing uniforms and detailed descriptive info. on them, could be a cornerstone of an article, or book that should be sat alongside Ospey's M-a -A. It is we who have to educate military history publishers, for most writers and illustrators up till now have been Americans and have not the knowledge or the real interest to research the Filipino fighters of that period. Mostly they are dismissed as having raided Spanish garrisons for the rayadillo (often described as "pale gray") and then just removing the Spanish badge. For example. The Illustration of a Fil. officer in the 2008 addition of Osprey's The Spanish-American War and Philippinie Insurrection; the officer is without a cap badge and sporting Spanish shoulder cords and not the Russian style epaulettes.
To be fair to Osprey, they are not alone. 'Military Illustrated' & 'Military History' mags Etc are just the same. This being the 111th anniversary of the Battle of San Mateo (among others), with the death of Gen. Lawton at the hands of an elite unit (Tiradores del la Meuarte), is seems an ideal time to submit an article to one of the publishers, don't you think? Military Illustrated Mag. (Published in London UK) also has a re-enacters Re-enactment Awards event every year and I'm sure would love to see our photos of the Katipuneros, & Republican soldiers. So what do you think men?
