Here are some pictures of this year's Chino Airshow. Frank was in a PAAC officer's uniform while I came in as a PAAC groundcrewman, but every other reenactor there would say..."Hey there, Philippine Scout!" or "Hey, the Philippine Scouts are here!", oh well, we did't want to bother explaining, ha, ha, ha. ;D It was great fun with the usual great show. The added bonus this year was that they took out a couple of planes which are close to our hearts and minds. The colonel tagged along and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately they didn't fly the P-26, so no mock dogfight. Too bad Mr. Zero san, maybe next year!

Awesome they had a peashooter and a P35!
Several years of doing PS has made a foothold on the "beachhead." Now some people at least know about them and that they're not "442nd Nissei" haha! Now we got to do the same for the PA, and I'm starting this year in Reading.

Ah hah! Do I see a little bit of Photo Shop rearing it's ugly head??? Unfortunately, "Mr. Wheel-counter" comes out in me!! The "P-35" is actually a rare Republic AT-12 advanced fighter trainer which survived WWII and the post-war scrappings. It is painted in roughly the same color scheme as the 17th Pursuit Squadron (based at Nichols Field) which flew P-35As through most of 1941. The only original P-35A (and not a Philippine survivor) was one owned by Kermit Weeks. It is seen on the cover of the Airpower" I wrote my article. Nice pictures!!

Learned something new I think it's great they put the two planes together. I wish they had a P-40 too. I like that picture of Frank like it's from LIFE magazine.

Ray and Frank
Nice pictures. You two have too much fun down there.
Victor is that not a P40 flying Tiger in front of Ray> the Philippine Scouts flight crew>haha
So to hear that Ray. I know you want to educate people that there were others in the war than Scouts.. Regular Army Philippines.
Keep plugging away at them.

I admit I sometimes get tired of EVERY restored P-40 having a tiger shark insignia - but on the other hand, for what it takes to restore and maintain a Warbrd today, I guess they can do it any way they want.
Actually I have seen at least one picture of a P-40 in the Philippines that had a tiger shark "mouth". It was on (I think) Cebu. The edge of the mouth was down, making it look "sad". The picture was one taken by the Japanese and I believe the plane was one of those flown back to Manila by a couple of captured U.S. pilots. (I believe "Air Classics" published a story about it about 25 years ago).

Yep, that's the one! Thanks for digging up the picture, VeeVee! Out of that Japanese "yearbook"-type publication, I trust?

Rick I could not resist this P 40 for you after that comment. My local 45 year old air show in a little city call Watsonville down the road. Hey Ray I wish I had a flight suit today.

That's got to be the same P40 from Chino! Looks like it had rained and cool over there. Over here it's sunny and 80's.
