Sirs, what is the minimum uniform/gears to be able to pass as a Philippine scout for those wanting to start the impression? Can anyone please post a list? Are there variations during the span of the war? If so, What are the 'safe' gears/uniforms that can cover every period? Thanks.

Hey guys, just got back from vacation. Let me add to this info later when I get a chance, but I believe those in Hongkong are in luck when it comes to the boots and some of the gear. They're cheaper there than in the States. Also, you can always have some of the stuff made in the Philippines

The brown ankle boots are available in Hongkong for a lot less than they are here. I see them on ebay.
Do a search on ebay for this item number: 200001510449

Apprently when the correct word is type it changes into thingyies.
Try typing d i c k i e s as one complete word. This was the brand name of those shirts and trousers.

They're cheaper there than in the States. Also, you can always have some of the stuff made in the Philippines I had some Spanish rayadillo uniforms as well as American (Span/Am War) uniforms made in Manila.... prices were extremely affordable ;D however I suggest sourcing out the correct materials yourself at Divisoria (for me it was was an all day job).... I also suggest bringing along original uniforms that you want reproduced, photos and even patterns just seemed to frustrate the tailors that I hired, but when I handed them the real uniform there were no problems. on my next trip, my focus will be on WWII US and Jap uniforms I plan on buying the whole Japanese kit at this suttler www.stewartsmilitaryantiques.com/display.php?prodid=4273&cat1=&getcategory=Japanese+Reproduction$550 for everything!..... thats not bad

Welcome and glad you shared this info. Thanks for this very valuable advise on getting uniforms tailored in Manila. We have some of the best tailors there and designers.

One question sirs, what's the diff between the US and the Belgian doughboy helmet? do they have the same mold/shape but different liner? or is the Belgian's steel is a little bit thinner?
i guess that's 3 Q's....

I'm not sure about the Belgian helmets but the difference between the US 1917A1 and the British helmets are the chinstrap and the brown leather liner that wrapped around aluminum frames. Also, the US shells had a rough sandpaper finish.
My first helmet was British. I just replaced the elastic chinstrap with the canvas one that M1 helmets had. The Kelly 1917A1 transitional helmet used the same adjustable chinstrap as the M1 (from what I've been told and come across).
Maybe I'll start a thread on this later with more details.

Hi Jimmay, $50. only for the repro liner. Chin strap I know is a separte item which is also not cheap. J Murray's has the WWII U.S. M1917A1 Helmet Chinstraps (Pre-Very Early WWII), I'm not sure if the other types like the U.S. Infantry M1 helmet web chinstrap (Early-War) are the same length which a few bucks cheaper. link below; www.jmurrayinc1944.com/www/parts.htmThe cheapest and the copy style is OK are the d i c k i e s shirts and trousers that sell them at Walmart or you can get used ones at the Goodwill stores for 3 to 5 bucks. Or you can get repros from WWII Impressions or What Price Glory too. WWII Impressions sometimes has them on clearance sale khaki shirts and trousers. Philip

On my last trip to the P.I., I brought along one of my pairs of canvas leggings in hopes of finding a Phillipine Scout veteran who might show me how to lace and tie them. Unfortunatly, the only one found, the father of one of asawa ako's amigas, was in very ill health & in the hospital at the time and his family did not want him bothered with memories of the unpleasant past ( I hope and pray that he has since recovered and is in the best of health) If there is a Pinoy out there who can help me with this, I would be greatly appreciative.
