Wow, where did they get the machineguns? They should take "hand-tohand fighting" pictures I went to a gun show yesterday and saw one vendor selling repro soft japanese hats with the nape cover attached.

The Jap MG's are from their Father's prize war booty I believe during his military service. These photos were probably taken in the 70's in their back yard.

Greetings Philip,
Great Pictures Philip. Is that Manny and Ray Ortega? If it is, Manny comes out pretty convincing as a WWII Japanese Officer. It seems that he's had a fondness for his moustache and beard eversince. So, they have been collecting and re-enacting for a long time. Is that Japanese Uniform and equipment Manny is wearing all authentic? Is that Luger real? The Japanese machine guns look like they've either been dug up or spent most of their life outdoors. The one on the left is missing one of the tripods legs. I once saw a similar looking machine on display at a police station in Manila right in front of the Manila Doctors Hospital. It was painted emerald green and had Japanese helmet right next to it on welded to a pipe. It had a plaque saying that it was abandoned by the Japanese during the liberation of Manila. This is a nice look into the past. I did take some pictures with some friends before dressing up as soldiers but our gear wasn't standardized and we didn't have access to real or authentic props. It nice to know that we weren't the only ones. Thanks for sharing.

From what the Ortegas told me the Jap MG's were war booty taken from abandone Jap positions or check points in UST. They said the guns have been restore and the tripods have been replaced. SO sorree no present pics! ;D
Manny told that the Luger anduniform are replicas. Manny has this fetish for Jap Facistic Impressions Banzai! ;D Tamad lang mag shave.

Greetings Philip,
Even if the gear is repro it still looks great. They must have a huge collection in the Philippines. A long time ago, I once met a Filipino historian and I think his name was Rico Jose. He too was interested in all things WWII Japanese. Last I heard he was in Japan doing research. I believe he also collected various recovered items from battle fields. I remember going to an exhibit at the Ayala Museum in the 70's. They were commemorating the "Liberation of Manila". There were displays of various Japanese and American weapons and equipment recovered from various battlefields and from intramuros and I believe some if not most of the items were his. Its just that most of the stuff were rusted and missing parts, helmets were rusty cracked and had big holes. There was also an interesting display of wartime newspapers. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera then.
