Talibong,
He must have been with the Philippine Army Air Corp at that time being a Death March Survivor. The PAAC was part of the PA under the USAFFE. What aircraft did he fly? Hope you can post some pics of your Grand father Lt. Katada and or Gand Mother too. Philip

Hi Legionnaire,
Yes I will post the pic after I'll get my hands on it. There is one pic where my grandpa is on the aircraft cockpit (single seater) with his gears on. I'm really not familiar about WWII aircraft ;-)
The NPRC in St. Louis, Missouri confirms that both my grandparents served under the Philippine Commonwealth Army and honorably discharged in 1946.

Last year I visited my Grandma in Siquijor Island, She was 90 years old She served as a 2nd Lt. in the Medical Corps. , Base Hospital, Camp X, Cebu Force, USAFFE. I found out She was the last surviving Veteran Nurse in Siquijor and probably that served in the Cebu Force. Hopefully if I visit her this year I'll get the old pictures. My late Grandpa was also a Lt. in Mactan Airbase, He was a Fighter Pilot for the USAFFE...He was part of the Bataan death march...After the war he got a Law Degree in Siliman in Dumaguete and got 89% grade on the Bar exam. BTW he is the only lawyer pilot I knew ;-) He died a farmer in his own land in the town of RM in Zamboanga. Their names are: Lt. Emeterio P. Katada, Fighter Pilot USAFFE 2nd Lt. Gliceria Omandam-Katada Nurse, Medical Corps. Cebu Force USAFFE

Hi, I am interested to know who Talibong is. I am the daughter of Emeterio and Gliceria Katada. My father was with the death march to Bataan and was incarcerated for 8 months. He was discharged from the Air Force for health reasons after he was released from incarceration. We moved to Mindanao and my father taught mathematics in high school. I guess he wanted to accomplish more, he went on to finish his law degree and became a lawyer. My father died of heart attack in 1954 outside the courthouse defending a land case. Thank you.

My family comes from a different corner. Grandfather (mother’s side) served 12 years in the German Imperial Marines, was sent to China for the boxer rebellion but was stationed in Kobe Japan for 3 years at the turn of that century. Father was born 1900 but didn’t serve in WWI or WWII but was pressed into the Vokssturm in late 1944 and fell late April 1945 around Berlin. One of two uncles served as a professional officer in the Wehrmacht, survived WWII-almost but fell to partisans in Czechoslovakia on 10th of May 1945. The other uncle survived but became a mental case. The husband of my aunt fell in WWII, the husband of the other aunt was too old to serve. Myself served 30 years in the US Navy, 4 years ‘In Country’ of Viet Nam, was twice “Station Dito” here in Subic and had enjoyed many ship visit to the Philippines. Arrived here first in 1962 and retired here in 1992 and have been walking on the sands of history here ever since. Left, my uncle, served during the whole war but fell on the 10th of May 1945. Right my father, pressed into the Vokssturm in 1944, missing as of the 17th of April 1945 (date of last letter) around Berlin. All of us in 1942 on our farm in East Brandenburg which is now in Poland. I in 1967 on the river that flows to Hoi An, working on the Navy boats, under water, that gave ferry service to the Marines there.

I especially enjoy your pictures, Karl. The ones of Fort Wint are especially appreciated! (I live just a few miles from Fort Casey, where the two 10" guns ended up).
