So when are ever going to see a remake of Battle of Bataan? I remenber seeing a clip of a Bataan Death March Vet angrily say. "Put us back into the History Books! Everybody remenbers the few hundred men of the Alamo. But not the thousands of American soldiers in Bataan who were butched and suffered 3 years of unimaginable cruelty." Thanks to Speilberg and Tom Hanks the whole pacific war was fought by the US marines singled handed is now more than ever ingrained in the American public's peerception considering the ignorance of WWII history? Again the Filipinos (battlin Bastards of Bataan), Australians, British, and the rest of the British Commonwealth forces will fade away. Philip

Once again Hollywood is making a Blockbuster of the Pacific war and once again the whole Pacific war was fought by the US marines. And not the thousands of American and Filipino soldiers on Bataan. Oh yes Hollywood has the budget with their millions of Dollars and no doubt it will be a excellent film. Why is it that the poor bastards of Bataan always miss out. Cheers for United Movietone Pictures and Director Rainer Loeser for making Death March Of Bataan. They may be a small outfit but at least they giving it their best shot by making sure that the Men on Bataan did not die for nothing and will never be forgotten and yes they did win the war three years later.

To me this film feels like just another movie about the U.S. Marines in the Pacific. Saddest thing is they keep shoving the same storyline and plot down our throats. Iwo Jima, Pearl Harbor, Normandy. It's never new stuff. If they want to make a Pacific War film, why don't they make one for Bataan? Or why not for Europe the Greeks, Brits, Aussies, or New Zealanders that fought on Crete or the Finns that fought the Soviets at least? I hope also that they make a film for the REAL BBB's in commeration for them. (Also I'm not despising the real Vets that fought, just Hollywood filming the same thing over and over again is boring)

One thing for sure with this mini series will surely create more marine and japanese reenactors/ reenactments into the hobby, . As if "Flags" and "Letters" were not enough already. Hollywood studios will only make these movies for the profitability of it. Was "Flags" a big hit like SPR? NO I myself was disapointed with the film even though it was based on the book. I have never even bought the DVD. "Letters" was a much much better film but it was from "Japanese point of view" as claimed by an American director's pov ! There so much great stories about the battle of Bataan with Americans and Filiopinos fighting side by side, one alone is the story of Col Ramsey's experience. With a big production value like "Empire of the Sun" epic look showing life in pre war Manila, once the pearl of the orient. Hollywood is so bankrupt with original ideas. "The Great Raid" was a noble effort but failed to really raise attention about the BBB, that studio f'k up it's potential to be as great as SPR. One good opportunity is it will help focus on the pacific theater of the war. And maybe bring attention to the Battlin bastards of Bataan. I know there is a film being developed called "The Beast of Bataan" but a military court room drama about war criminal Yamanutsa trial. "can you handle the truth?" ;D I hope this helps bring attention to the vets of the death march. And I hope Rainer's "Death March" doc. would help increase awareness also.
