The PBS version of Sonny Izon's documentary An Untold Triumph is now available on DVD with extra features. It is a documentary about the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments assembled in the US during WWII.
Info I got from Mike Houlahan of PSHS: - The menu is formatted like an old army photo album. - Has the complete silent footage (11 minutes) of the rescue in New Guinea of the survivors of a plane crash in 1945 - The complete Paramount produced recruitment video featuring the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments.(5 minutes). - Also included is the original Lou Diamond Philipps introduction and the original PBS trailer.

Thanks for this great info!
We met a lady with the UCLA Library in the Phil expo and asked us to do reenactment impressions of the 1st or 2nd Filipino regt. They have not been represented.

hi
been lurking in this forum for more than a month now.
congratulations to everyone for having this great site!
on the untold triumph docu.......really??? they already have it on dvd format??? i just had my copy in VHS format sent over by my friend from the states who had it advanced ordered since it was not readily available in virginia....shucks!!!!
anyway, a bit of info that i want to share......anyone here (specially for those abroad) who are still familiar with the old marikina shoe expo located in araneta center cubao? well my wife just told me that there are stores there (i think 2 or 3) who sell old "materials" or antiques...alot dating back pre and during WW2 period....items like old magazines, militaria accessories (couple of helmets too once in a while according to my wife) etc...couple of volumes of old japanese ww2 military documents etc....one old TIME mag they had showed a cover page with Gen MacArthur shaking hands with Sir Winston Churchill...this particular one is selling at P1,200....well you guys might already get what i mean......my wife talked with one of the store's owners and told her that they usually display these in their stores and regularly auction them off at ebay.....
another interesting area to look into are some of the stores in tiendecitas at c-5 pasig...there are stores there that also sell the same stuff.....noticeable are the old magazines and scripts.....
well anyway, just thought of sharing this tidbit of info with you guys and maybe some of the local (PI) here might want to visit these stores of interest...
well cheers again to everyone!!!

hi leginonnaire,
nope the stores are not in marikina...it was just called marikina shoe expo because generally the shoes that they sell there are all locally made in "shoe city" marikina.....
the stores are in cubao, araneta center, just beside the former C.O.D. if you are familiar with the place....i think c.o.d department store is now called puregold...marikina shoe expo has been there since the 70's i think...it's an archade of shoe stores....
if your friend is still in the PI, most likely he would know the place (marikina shoe expo)........keep me posted if you need further assistance in getting directions...
cheers!

Greetings Dober, welcome to the forum.
Yes I know Marikina Shoe Expo. I have bought shoes from there growing up. It's near the back of Ali Mall and Rustan's, and the same side as COD's.
Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll check it out next time I go home.

We met this Lady Eloisa Borah If I remenber she is connected with the UCLA Library and wanted us to do a visual presentation of the 1st Filipino Infantry Regt.
She is very involved with the history of the 1st and 2nd Filipino regtments. She visits this forum and if you need more assistance about these units let me know if you need her email.

I finally received my copy of the Untold Triumph DVD. I like the short wartime recruitment video special feature about the unit.
I like where they were being issued their special bolos; one of the men doing a yoyo exhibition with the narrator saying that it was invented in the Philippines; the men cooking lechon, etc.
Good segment.
