While doing some house work, I put on a VCD of the old movie "March of Die". I've forgotten how good this movie is. I think it came out in the late 70's or early 80's but after all these years it's still an excellent compelling movie.
Any of you guys seen it?

That is my all time classic Legion film! The best Legion film!
Did you know that there are two versions of that film with different endings? I have a poor copy of the extended bersion.

Really? What's the alternate ending? ? Did Gene Hackman survive?

Theatrical version;has promoted Corporal Terence hill ( Marco Segrain) briefing the recruits with the same speech Gene Hackman said to them in the begnning and Sgt. Triand looking on. As the caravan with a passenger Catherine Deneuve ( Simone) moving in front of the recruits, exiting the fort. final scene has a beduin joining the caravan at the last minute as it exits the fort. He reveals himself as Corporal Marco to Sgt. Triand outside the Fort. The Sgt. just smiles and nods his head to say goodbye, the classic legion " Le Boudin" march plays and credits roll up. Plus there are more footages in the theatrical long version. I can recount. A lot was cut out on the vhs and Dvd version. sadly I only have a very poor vhs copy of the theatrical version. The short VHS/ DVD version;has only Corporal Marco giving the Gene Hackman speech to the recruits with Sgt. Triand looking on. And Simone with the Caravan walks out of the Fort. Music and credits roll up. the classic Col Foster's (Gene Hackman) speech; Marco Segrain: [facing a line of new recruits and citing the late Major Foster] Some of you will give up. Some of you will even try to run. I warn you, until now no one succeeded. When the Legion doesn't get you, the Arabs will. When the Arabs won't catch you, the desert will. And when the desert doesn't devour your measly corpses, then I will. I wouldn't know what's worse ;D Philip

Philip... you won't believe this. My 2 year old loves the Le Boudin song of the legionnaires. I was playing with him this weekend and I hummed the tune to him. He liked it and kept on asking me to sing/hum it to him.
Anyway, I found the clip on youtube and he loves watching it ;D

A legionnaire in the making! He needs white Kepi ;D Teach him the slow march of the legion just like in the you tube video while humming the tune. Also do you have the DVD Disney's "An Officer and a Duck"? Get for him it's all about pre war US Army training. He'll love this shorts. Donald Duck wears the Kelly steel helmet. It's hilarious and a lot Army life training. If not I can burn you a copy. Philip

I came across this Passchendaele 2008, a nice movie ala Private Ryan but this time from a Canadian POV set during the great war.

Fantastic excellent WWI trench film. Thanks for posting this Ray. Far cry from the Officer and a Duck! ;D WHEN we we ever see a realistic battle for Bataan trenches horrific hand to hand combat film in this grand production value?? WHEN? I really dream if that time ever is made with this production value. We have the manpower, talent, production crews. If "Platoon", "Apocalypse Now", "Hambuger Hill" Seige of Firebase Gloria were made with all the realism and grand production value? When will it ever happen again? Even the "Great Raid" had to be film. Talagang HOPELESS!!!!
