This has got to be in some movie archive somewhere... I'd love to watch it. There's one other movie that I wish I can get to see again. It's this old "pelikulang Tagalog" that they showed in the afternoons back in the day in the Philippines. Starring Vic Vargas. It was set in Bataan during the war. He was a Scout who had an "anting-anting" medallion that gave him invulnerability (or just a lucky charm). In the end, at the fall of Bataan, his anting-anting got snagged in the boat that his companions were going to row into Corregidor. He lost the medallion and he didn't know. When he went back to fight the japanese as rear-guard, he died because he was without his anting-anting. Sounds a little cheesy but I'd love to see that movie again. Something like that. That is exactly the movie That I've been searching for a long time. It stars Vic Vargas,Bembol Rocco,Leopoldo Salcedo, Some Old Spanish Mestizo Guy who I think is the father of the Vic Vargas Character's girlfriend or maybe Grandfather. And he is some kind of revolutionary war hero or general. I dunno Can't remember too much details. I was just a little kid back then. I also remember the Bataan Death March and it showed battles. The Bembol Rocco Character is killed when his round glasses are smashed by a Japanese soldier and he can't see. Well the few times I go back to Manila and ask about this, people think i'm nuts or they don't know what I'm talking about. I need to know where to find this flick and The Title of it. I'll even pay a little for it.

Was it really Vic Vargas or Tony Ferrer? I looked at Tony Ferrer's list of films and one is titled Dambana ng Kagitingan release in 1968. That has to be the movie. That title can't be for something else other than Bataan, and 1968 was just a year after the 25th anniversary of the fall of Bataan. If you ever find this movie... please let me know!

That movie with Vic Vargas was entitled "I Shall Return", at the end of the movie it said "This is not the end, it's just the beginning". The mestizo guy was Rod Navarro who was actually in a scene defending (I think) Vic Vargas in a military court.
During the trial they started hearing some bomb blast that heralded the start of the war, which made it so cheesy. The leading lady's grandfather referred to Vic Vargas as a "crute" (recruit) which he favor's over an officer.
Tony Ferrer did a lot of WWII movies, but often they're corny. A lot of times they will show him with a tommy gun and the attacking Japanese soldiers will appear with the familiar Japanese tune then he'll let go a full automatic burst... and the whole Japanese platoon will drop dead!
******
Now check this out! During the late 70's there was this afternoon movie show called Sine Siete (channel seven). One of the movie I've seen was an old world war II movie about a cavalry unit fighting the Japanese. The only two movie actors that I've identified then were Johnny Montero, a mestizo as their officer and a young unknown man who will become a famous comedian named Chiquito.
They were good riders and on a withdrawal. In one scene they were blowing up a bridge and the explosives didn't go off. A brave scout went to the bridge and connected the wires and sacrificed himself in the process.
I was a young teenager and I didn't think about it that much then. I even wondered about were there really Filipino cavalrymen? But as I grew older and learned about our scouts, then it hit me... They were portraying the brave men of 26th cavalry Philippine Scouts!
The final part of the movie was a bloody battle. As the cavalry moves, an artillery blast hit and knocked Chiquito dead. The scouts charged toward the advancing enemy who were supported by tanks. There were two Japanese tanks and the scouts were decimated.
I've been wanting to post this but I wanted make some research first, but I couldn't find anything about the movie. My suspect is, (though I'm not sure) that this movie was made by the great Filipino filmmaker Manuel Conde (not his real name) his real last name is Urbano. He made a version of Genghis Kahn that won him some awards.

That sounds like a great movie... wouldn't this movie be listed under Chiquito's filmography?
Wait... I don't even know Chiquito's real name to look it up...

After all these years I think I've found it. I don't care for filipino movies AT ALL. But this flick for some reason has me obsessed for years, decades even. I think the leading lady was Vic Vargas' love interest. She was also a nurse or a medic. I think her father was the Leopoldo Salcedo Character. Bembol Rocco is Vic Vargas' friend. I really liked this movie because It was real army guys in real battles and not just the typical guerrilla movie. If I remember correctly this was filmed in color. The few times they showed this again, they did so in black and white. Why they did this I don't know. They even had aerial battles. Now i don't know if they stole that from Midway or Tora! Tora! Tora! It is really a stretch and hard to remember details if you were 4-5 years old when this was shown in tv.(it's a blessing and a curse that I can remember stuff in detail since i was 2) My Grand father was a pow in World War II and my dad was a Vietnam War Veteran. So I got into war movies. Now if there is a dvd/vhs or even internet streaming movie available, then i'll be happy.

Veevee,
Chiquito's last name is Pangan, but it doesn't matter because he only used one screen name. He was a good horse rider and if you will recall his production company's name... It was called "Sotang Bastos Production".

Philip,
It's definitely not Patria Adorada (Dugo ng Bayani) 1969. It was a lot older than that probably done in the early 1950's. And besides, I will be able to identify the power house cast like Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, etc.
I just hope GMA 7 which aired it maintains an archive of old movies. My research on filmography didn't helped at all. Records are so incomplete.

I last saw this movie shown on Channel 7 in 1979.
I once called GMA 7 long distance to ask about this movie. The person I talked to told me that they don't have the rights to make copies or sell the movie (whatever movie I was asking about... Of course I didn't know the title at that time). Her suggestion was to contact the production company or copyright holder and go from there.
So the first step I guess is to find out who the copyright holder is or if the production company even exists.
