I've never read the book, did the Japanese Government pay war reparations to the local villagers in the name of the Japanese Government Onoda represented by pillaging, looting, terrorizing and what about those he killed? All this happened after the war was long over. He should have been tried as a criminal, just like the NPA or the Abu Sayaf, or since he was still at a state of war with the Filipinos should have been prosecuted as a war criminal.
I saw some of his persoanl effects on display here at Chino Air Museum a while back.

I don't know. I don't have the book, I just saw that one program in the History Channel about him. I think President Marcos pardoned him or something. But I think the Japanese Gov't paid the community by financing schools or whatever else.
