Hello everybody, I'm a new member so here's a little about myself. I 'm an ex-pat Canadian serviceman living and reenacting in Texas. I currently have three impressions: Royal Canadian Engineer, 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, and 5th GebirgsJager. There will be lot's of time for us to get better acquainted. I have an important question to ask and hopefully someone here will have the answer.
An American freighter, the Don Jose took on 212 Canadian vehicles in November, 1941 from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and set sail for Hong Kong. The vehicles were for the two Canadian regiments; the Royal Rifles of Canada and the Winnipeg Grenadiers that surrendered to the Japanese Christmas Day, 1941. The Don Jose was diverted to Manila and the vehicles were offloaded and parked in Fort McKinley. I'm currently restoring a CMP (Canadian Military Pattern) truck and am considering doing it in the markings of one of those regiments in order to honour their sacrifice. I haven't been able to find any information or pictures of those vehicles. Would anyone in this forum have any info or pics they could share with me? Any help greatly appreciated. Derek.
