75th anniversary Bataan memorial march and commemoration event at Orangeburg, NY Held on April 8, 2017. Organized by Joe Kleiman
The present day active duty 31st Infantry based in Fort Drum, NY, brought the Shanghai Bowl to the event. The bowl was made in Shanghai in 1932, commissioned by the officers when the regiment was stationed there. In Bataan, they buried it right before the surrender pr prevent its capture. It was recovered after the war and is now a proud heritage of the regiment.

There were also Vietnam era 31st veterans there. One approached me and said that in Vietnam they had a senior NCO who was with the Philippine Scouts in Bataan. He was much more older than they at that time, a grizzled veteran. Unfortunately he was killed in action. I tried to find the man who told me that. I wanted to know more, but he disappeared in the crowd and we had to get ready for the symposium.
