Hey Vic....Every time I view a photo of these early model B-17s, I am reminded just how vulnerable they were to those nimble Zero Fighters. I have always been curious as to how many, if any, Zeros fell victim to Fortress gunners. Those early 4 engine bombardment aircraft, obviously, as shown in photos, weren't armed nearly as heavily as those that were making daily runs to Hitler's Fatherland later in the War.
Hey Vic....Thanks for the additional photos. What a disaster the Clark Field fiasco was. Hawaii was, at least, a surprise attack, but the fact that the Commanders in the PI had ample warning and still were caught with their britches down is unforgivable. Our peacetime mentality cost us dearly, doncha think??
