Hello fellow Bataan enthusiests, I spent 3 1/2 years driving the trails of Bataan and walking alot too!!! i've been a Bataan enthuseist since my childhood upon learning of my cousin 1st sgt. Charles Furhmann fought there with the 48th material squadron as air corp infantry. He died at camp O'Donnell in June ,1942. I have written a unit history of that squadron titled "Barksdale to Bataan". well enough of me! I just thought i would start posting some artifacts etc. that may be of help to reenactors or collectors. I had never seen any book etc that covered what type of dogtags the philippine commonwealth army wore. I learned them as i dug them and i'm sending photos of the most common type. they are similar to a U.S. ww1 tag , but thinner and lighter and made of aluminum. They have 2 holes drilled through for strings and feel they MAY have been issued 2.they measure about 1 1/4 inch in diameter. One side has the stamped letters "P.A." which we all know is Philippine Army. On the reverse it appears they left it up to the soldier to hand stamp his name, serial number and unit. i've found some with alot missing or just a name. some where the soldier just used a knife and scratched it on. i hope the pictures are clear enough and will post more later. thanks and REMEMBER BATAAN!!!!! Hi, Frank,
We corresponded for a while back in the 1980s, when I was writing my magazine articles on the airwar in the Philippines, 1941-42. Good to hear from you again. Still have your book.
