Saw this rare Dec. 1941 Life Mag issue in a used book store here in Singapore. Had to to get it at all cost. ;D (it was not that easy to get permission and to simple have a photo shoot at the Fort.)

That's really good photo of you Rudy! You should have worn the class A on the Gen.'s chair I sold to you! Sadly we did not have an appointment with the Gen. that day. Just three day pass to see the sights of Manila. More to come. ;D

Hey Philip: I would of, but visited before I bought the class A from you. Felipe Fernandez treated me to a tour and this girl wanted to take me home. Of course I refused because I did not want to miss the reunion at the fort.

from the article of LIFE Magazine, Dec. 22, 1941 The original photos published by LIFE Dec. 22 issue only showed peacetime Philippines with USAFFE troops and manuevers.Hi Phillip, Good work. Thanks for showing specially the life magazine of 22 December.
You know, on that date we were engaged in a dreadful battle against Japanese dive bombers and tanks at Damortis. I cannot forget that day when we found out that a Philippine Scout on horseback could battle the Japanese in Tanks supported by planes in the air.
yes, my recollection of that day is vivid. Our baptism in combat was dreadful but memorable in that we found out that the Japanese War Machine is not as formidable as the Japanese thought it to be. - Felipe

Intramurous, Manila, P.I.Oh, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga, Oh, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga, Oh, the monkeys have no tails, They were bitten off by whales, Oh, the monkeys have no tails in Zamboanga.
According to Harry McClintock, the tune was borrowed from an official march of the Philippine Constabulary Band, as played at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904.

Hi Ray: Did not get a great close up. Another picture is behind me on grand dinner table. Also took picture of his medals. Hard to see some flash and I of course was not behind my camera. I was amazed with the place but so tired from the flight did not even think of pictures which now seems stupid. We went up after breakfast then took off for sights in Manila. Felipe at 95 was pushing us pretty hard. I can send to your email if needed to blow up. 3 mb pictures so will enlarge. Rudy
