I can't believe it's May. The Reading WW2 Weekend/Airshow event is barely a month away. Just a head's up to those in the northeast and midatlantic areas. The event is on June 1-3. www.maam.org/maamwwii.htmlI looked at the PDF of the brochure ( www.maam.org/wwii/ww2_brochure.htm ) Lt. Buck Compton and Sgt. Don Malarkey of the Band of Brothers will be attending. I'll have to bring my DVD and book for them to sign I already have Forrest Guth and Bill Guarnere's signature on them.

Greetings Victor,
Wow, that's this weekend. Last time I was at that event was about 3-4 years ago. Its a really great event. I hope that its as great as I remember it. Its just that its about a 3-4 hour trip from where I live. I want to go but I don't know if my work schedule will allow me. Will you be setting up an encampment at the show? If I don't make it please post some pictures. If I remember correctly they also have flea market there where they sell various accroutements.

Hi milspec, I just plan to "freelance" with the guys. I do know the group that sets up the Bataan camp. I've "reinforced" them the past 2 years. We'll hang out in their camp when we're not checking out all the happenings around the place. If you do come look us up.

Greetings Philip,
What I have are modern combat boots. The all leather black ones with the panama soles. Most if not all my WWII gear is late war or M1945 OD #7. The only thing I have that looks early WWII is the M1928 HAversack I bought in Seattle but all the hardware is rusting and I haven't had the time to retore it.

Hi Milspec,
A Pinoy filmmaker will be there who is makinga documentary about the medal of Honor Jose Calugas PS And we will be there as his cast. Plus this will be my first time to go to that event. And check out their swap meet were you can get more gear to assemble your PS impression.
Hope fully be ready to join us in July 7 & 8 with our first ever staged "Battle of Bataan". We will be camping out with our early war Philippine Commonwealth display on Friday night till Sunday.
Then in the afternoon we will change into a Spanish American Rayadillos for the this battle. We will have a Spanish gun vs. the Yankees gatling gun will be used also.

Greetings Philip,
Maybe I can borrow some gear from some of my other collector friends. But it will be a stretch. I'll see what I can put together by Friday. I would probably be travelling Saturday morning and get there by Saturday noon time. Wish me luck.

The irony is that if you can't complete the impression in time for Reading, you can probably get the rest of what you need from the flea market there.

Greetings Philip,
Here are some items I was able to scrounge around and borrow:
1. WWI doughboy helmet - no chin strap 2. M1910 web belt 3. .45 mag pouch 4. M1910 canteen with cover 5. looking to acquire D-I-C-K-I-E-S khaki longsleeve shirt and pants.
Still looking for: -brown service shoes -leggings - my friend had a 3R but it was tight on me. I apparently have big calves - dummy service firearm
Greetings Victor,
According to some of my collector friends the flea market at Reading is somewhat pricey - but who knows we might get lucky - If I go I still have to pay for entrance tickets. Most likely My wife and two kids will be with me. I believe its about $16.00 each. I'm on a little bit of a tight budget. I'll probably just satisfy myself with looking.
Here's hoping to see you guys this weekend.

Hi milspec,
Does the helmet have a liner?
I can bring another leggings as I also use a 3R and some are a perfect fit while other 3R's are tight on my calf.
Hope you can restore your 1928 haversack if you don't have time can you borrow 1936 suspenders?
So it's really the boots and uniform nalang that you need to complete.
I have a L size "d-i-c-k-i-e-s" shirt with the Philippine scout patch on it I can lend you? let me know. If it fits then all you need in will be the trousers.
As for the boots see if you can get one that could resemble the garrison boots as the rest will be covered by the legging anyway. Would you need a photo ref?

Dickies .... ha! I was able to remove the word from the censored list.
Yes it's true, not everything is cheap in the flea market. I do find a lot of good deals though. You have to dig around.

Greetings Philip,
The doughboy helmet has a liner. Its a weird black synthetic type leather with a net mesh in the back. The original chin strap was leather which has rotted away. I might be able to replace the chintrap. The color is a dark rust brown color. my friend would not let me repaint it. The helmet sits a little lower than the M1917A1.
I might have a pair of khaki pants which might pass. I think I'm a size large with regards to the shirt. I'll try to get a shirt but if you could bring yours just in case.
They don't have a spare Set of suspenders to lend me. Can't I deploy without the suspenders?

Hi milspec,
That is a US WWI helmet with that type of liner. Hope you can attached a chin strap, the early war they used the canvass type
Will definetly bring the other dickies shirt with patch on it. And a spare set of leggings.
If you can't get the suspenders that's OK. Unfortunately I don't have a spare one as I will need mine.
