Greetings Philip,
Great feature on the old Airfix company as well as plastic modeling in general. I too started my modeling with airfix kits that my grandfather bought me when I was a child. I remember building the P51D, ME109, as well as the ME 110. The biggest airfix kit I built was the Short Stirling. I also built their line of 1/76 scale armour and collected their 1/76 scale figures. WWII German figure and armour was the rage in those days. The good old days. Now I can hardly afford to buy 1/72 scale models let alone 1/35. Thanks for the sentimental trip back to the care free and fun days.

I too exprience this wonderful hobby! It had a lot of history lesson in it. And the BOX ART covers were truly works of great military paintings before those slick product photography came in. Loved collecting Revel's yearly cataloges.
Model shops in Manila were one particular favorite of me and my friends were in Sta Mesa "Disney" who got his supplies from the PX at Clark. There was another store next to Sta Mesa market. Through typhoons we would still catch a JD "lawanit" built Buses in search of those newly arrived kits around Manila.
UniMart, Arcegas, Makati super market all had Revell, Monogram, Aurora, Linbergh and Airfix was the King! before the Jap model companies came in. My cousin and I would travel all the way to downtown Manila in this specific model store that had great collection. There were no Lil's or Fontana in those days. Those were the simple creative and historically educational fun hobbies.
The Ultimate model kits were the US carriers by Revell.

Great job with the spitfire, kudos to these junior airfix modellers. Other 1:1 scale projects in the works........ 1) Action figure headsculpts, he, he, he One is supposed to be MacArthur, another is Rommel, Patton, and yet another is of a "onetime infamous Austrian born German politician". 2) Another 1;1 scale Browing water cooled MG Well we all know these days that if it ain't 1:1 scale, it just doesn't give the same "umph"! ;D Two 1:1 projects I wish IPMS will someday look into in the near future... a PAAC p26 and of course a Q boat

I enjoyed watching the 6 part feature on Airfix models. Brings back memories. I used to go to Makati in my teens and try to buy the latest releases of Airfix figures. I also was in the hunt for Matchboxes and ESCIs. I liked the HO-OO and the 1/72 scale stuff because I have a mini-diorama setup in my room and I could play with them. Plus, they are more affordable. I've always liked the Spitfire myself but I was more of a modeler for tanks and infantry. Thanks for posting this!

What models can you get there in Singapore? Are the prices good?

The model kit selection here in Singapore are a disappointment from the several shops I have visited and all are very small store space. Manila even has better stock and selections. As for Prices I have not really checked.
