Hello friends, here we go from Spain with a new reenacting group, about the spanish "RAYADILLOS", Thanks to Ding that provided a very accurate stuff. Here i bhring some picks, and hope to hear more about other groups, and even some day meet somewhere. why not?. We are still recruiting new members, and geting the last details in the uniforms. The weapons we wanted to show the different guns they sent there, and as you see we use the Remington, the Spanish Mauser 1893 and some Mauser "tercerola". Also the bayonets, backpacks, blanckets, and "bota" (canteen) are the reglamentary type. img197.imageshack.us/img197/1829/caon1.jpg[/img]

Where in Spain are you based? I will be attending my son's wedding in a small town 30 -40 cals north of Valencia in Sept. I will be traveling arround that region for 1 week only alas. Your uniforms & equiptment look perfect! What is the cost of the rayadillo cloth, & did you have the uniforms made by one tailor? The binoculors look as new! Where did you obtain the rifles? Sorry for all the questions. I am back in London now, but will return to the Philippines in October. If I could buy the rayadillo cloth during the week in Spain, I could then have my uniform made in Pampanga on my return. Congratulations to your Rayadillo Company & I wish you the best of luck with your recruiting drive! I shall be trying to organise a film shoot of a skirmish between a US Army patrol and ambushing Filipino forces on my return to Angeles City in Oct. The plan is to make a short musical DVD of it to show influencal people like the Phil. president 'Gloria', Pampanga Provincial Governor, the mayors of Angeles & San Fernando cities, etc for partronige and financial support. Some stills/photos of all or any reenactors would greatly assist us in this project. The end objective would be to stage a 'battle' reenactment in 2010 as it will be the 111th anniversary of all the major battles fought in 1898. I would love the event to be The Battle of San Mateo as the Town of Rodriquez (Montalban) is holding a big 2 week long Fiesta during December. The battle took place on the 19th Dec. when Gen. Lawton was killed. That may be a project too far but we cdo have 18 months in front of us, so who knows? -Insurrectomad

Hello Insurrecto, well, we are at Valencia, so if you want we can meet in september and have some beers, you can also visit our museum here, that you will like. just tell me when you will be here. Actually we are buildoing a small deffensive "blocao", that is a small wooden fortification, to help in our reenactments. Ill keep you all informed, guys.

Very nice detail on that "roz" leather headgear. Are there still old fashioned "alpargatas" shoes available in Spain?
I believe this is a video of our Los Rayadillos from Valencia.

Hi, yes, we can find that "alpargatas" over here, they are still in use in several country areas for work and traditional dressing also.

Yo, Rayadillo, if you are interesrted i can give you some info and how to get the right "alpargatas". there were two models, the "ARAGONESAS", "esparto" sole (like straw), white fabric, tied with long black fabric tapes, and the "CASTELLANAS", same sole, white also, and tied in long white fabric tapes.
All them are still availlable over here in same style than 1898's

I liked the presentation done on Utube! Would have welcomed it running a little slower to focus on the details, but very nice indeed. It seems my sons wedding will be in Denia, to the south of Valencia. Alas I fear family commitments will prevent my having any time to meet up with you chaps. I have managed go and visit the village that remained to the end in communist control & defied Gen. Franco, with some of the family as my son Xavier is very interested to see it. Is it easy to find Rayadillo fabric in Spain? -David

Hi, well, in Alicante (close to Denia) there is a factory that can make it very similar, but they ask for a big order to make it.

That was as I feared, they have no ready-made rayadillo to purchase just a few metres at a time. Family commitments may prevent my traveling to Valencia from Denia or Alicanti where the 2nd part of our stay will be centered, but would like your tel. no. just in case, if pos. Cheers, -David
