I love the pictures, thanks! I missed the event by two weeks. I was at Corregidor two weeks later.

Great pics Carlos! Never been to the island. Last time I was in Manila 2001 I wanted to go on my last week but ran out of funds for me and my cousin. Did they have a 65th anniversary commemoration this year? Philip

The 65th anniversary (the fall of Corregidor) would be in May next year (2007). I wonder if they have anything planned.

Hello Philp First time we have communicated, thank you for your comment.
Before I answer you, let me say, that your many, rich, great contribution have impressed me. I enjoyed every one of your entries, they are very valuable. But I have shyed away from putting my 5 cents in.
At this moment I would like to express the same thing to all the other great contributers, thank you!
As to, whether the surrender of Corregidor ( Really all of the Philipine) was observed in any way, as the 65 anniversary or any other, I just don't know. I believe you all heard of the celebrations on the 9th of April which at one time was called 'Bataan Day" and I believe now is called "Hero's Day". There usually is a celebration and memorial service every year on Mount Samat. The President normally participates. Carlos

Carlos, Maraming Salamat for your wonderful words and for truly appreciating my contributions to this forum. I want to included this email I received from Filipino news reporter Dionisio Grava on the latest conditions of Corrigedor. TO OUR PATRIOTIC KABABAYANS, HISTORIANS AND FELLOW WORLD WAR-II VETERANS: Here is a disrurbing well-documented report I am disseminating for and in behalf of the patriots in, and of the WeekEnd Balita of Los Angeles, California, for your attention and corrective support. Bataan and Correigdor are the remaining bastions of hope for democracy, peace and brotherhood. Take a good look at the pictorial report (link below) and as ourself 'Have we leaned nothing and have fogotten nothing? In Europe it is what they said,"Ils n'ont rein appris , ni risen oubli?" To desecrate Corregidor where we, veterans, our fathers, brothers, cousins of the "Battling Bastards of Bataan and Corrigedor: who shed blood and died for God and Country strongly oppose desecrating the sanctity of the graveyard of our noble heroes who made safe democracy and freedoms for the Unted States and the Philippines. Not to leave out our Asian brothers, Australian and new Zealanders who stopped the Japanese invaders (circa 1941 - 1946). Corregidor and Bataan -are the remaining bastions for hope of peace in the Pacfic region, with a forboding and grim duty for us to remember. We, the (below) following ask for your moral support to at least take a minute of your time to e-mail or write a letter to through Asst. Secretary (J.Terry Adevoso) to Pres. GM. Arroyo on Veteran 's Affairs . Malacanang, Manla, Philippines. or (at PAVAOPGMA@GMAIL.COM. Thank you.
