It surely not beyond us to replicate guns such as these for events and display? It has an enormous touch-hole! Is this because the powder was of such poor quality? If only The patriots had manufactured hundreds of these, then poor markmanship and lack of rifles would have been compensated. rows of these filled with grapeshot would have caused havoc amongst Americans charging at trenches. A greater use of grenadiers with bombs might have made a greater difference also? A really clear sharp photo as well. Excellent!

I'm not sure if this was really a gun or if it's one of those bamboo cannons for making big booming rackets fired during New Year celebrations ;D

Would do more than just make a noise if filled with pebbles & nails, VeeVee! Lack of powder supplies must have been the reason for failure not to put them to greater use I suppose.

This is just a version of the kalburo - bungbung noisemaker cannon used for New Year's merry-making. The most you could load this with would be an empty tin can. Loading it with anything heavier like pebbles and nails would certainly turn it into a grenade. There is psychological and deception warfare value to this however. The noise and appearance of a battery of these would probably cause the enemy to duck for cover, and could divert enemy troop movements from approaching weak defenses, as well as funnel them into ambush kill zones.

The bamboo noisemaker cannon would also have been used as a signalling or alarm raising device.
