web.go2db.com/media/fortmacarthurdays.movThere are some great scenes of The Battle of Bataan with the "brutal attack" of death march prisoner Joe Lopez and Col. Ortegas interview is shown in the last 1/4 and end part of the video. Tim Kano's feedback on the Battle of Bataan! Bataan battle "1. The Scout Car we had planned on knocking out parked in the wrong place, right behind the Philippine Scout defensive line and the Scouts put up such a good fight there was no way we could reach the Scout Car as planned. BTW, Scouts, you guys really ought to come out to a tactical reenactment some day. You would make an awesome force. 2. The Bataan battle stretched out to long. The Japanese were stalled and lost to many to the intense fire from the Philipine Scouts so the senario became stalemated. The public was starting to get bored and wondering what the heck was going on. 3. It was at this point I stood up and walked out onto the battlefield sword in hand. Neither side listened to the cease fire order but eventually both sides caught on and the recall was finally sounded. 4. Despite being briefed the Japanese forces closed with the Scouts and US forces after the cease fire and did hand to hand against orders. I am sorry for this and it was corrected the next day. I was not pleased with this as it gave a bad impression to the public. Of course stuff like this happened and we are not trying to put a good light on the Japanese but I don't think the public is quite ready to have atrocities reenacted in front of them and their children.
When the three battle senario was starting all the forces were ready and waiting except for the Japanese and the Australians. I was highly embarrased and finally had to personally rush off the field to get our guys in gear. Turns out despite having it drummed into their heads (the Japanese) to be geared up and ready they were wandering around camp looking for Ammo and were in the process of pilfering our supplies as I showed up. I nearly exercised the IJA option of loping off a few heads in true Japanese army fashion with my sword. I guess many of our guys were waiting for free ammo despite being told I can no longer finance them out of my own pocket. I end up doing most of it anyway (again!). Our unit leader later helped, but this is something our unit needs to fix. "BTW: The USAFFE Troops were in position WAITING and READY both days! ;D Congradualtion on our First Bataan battle Guys! Philip " Were the Battling Bastards of Bataan ! "

Cool Video. Too bad I didnt really see us except for the General or Col. Ortega I hope the Veterans enjoyed the show though. The Japanese commnder wrote the battle was "stretched out too Long" hahaha that's funny cause the reinacted battle only lasted what 4 minutes or less Yes we were ready and waiting while all the awards went to the Japs afterwards maybe we should add this to our chant "We're the battling bastards of Bataan...No Awards! No Medals! No Uncle Sam"

The camp looks great! What a meticulously thought-out display. Where did you get the camo netting? Can't wait to see more pictures.

Great Idea for our Battle cry Ramil! We should definetly included and yell that next event. Which is Marching through History at Chino. Ray bought the Camo net! 25 feet X 25 feet. Really added a wartime feel to the camp! Once again Congradulations to everyone as we put on a great account of our unit and really proud of representing our Filipino heroes of Bataan. borrowed from the link Victor posted above. Philip PS if anyone has more photos please post them.

I attended the event as a Japanese soldier, or "makapili" as Teddy would put it. I got "killed" 2 out of the 3 battles I participated in. But I hanged out more with the Philippine Scouts than I did with the Japanese unit. It was very sporting of the Philippine Scouts to share their meal with me. Genuine gentlemen! You guys should get the award! Here are pictures of me marching with the enemy (also borrowed from the site that Veevee posted). I'm the trooper with the backpack, second from the left. I'm the one whose face was almost hidden by the Rising flag attached to the rifle. It was nice to meet the rest of the Philippine Scouts. Like I said, thanks for sharing your food with me. If it is any consolation, I left the Sendai (Japanese) unit early during Saturday, and didn't join in on any battle the next day. I went swing dancing Saturday night and got home in the wee hours of the morning. Not in condition to reenact at all. -Joseph

It seems to appear in the Coastal units, including the AA units. The biggest issue is nobody is making the jackets. Those appear in the photos of the Coastal AA units.

Hey Guys The Blue denim was precursor to the HBT and issued to coastal defense (US Army & Philippine Common Wealth) right? Reason why I'm asking I've got a couple of people asking me about the blue uniforms Ramil Hey There Ramil!......Thanks for the photos which you and all our other good friends have thus far shared with us in this forum. I can't believe I went through all that weekend without having taken a single shot from my camera. I was so fatigued and felt like a zombie that whole time. Still, it was great fun having all you wonderful people over there, and I can confidently say that we now are not only are a group, we are a team. Yes, now as for HBTs?......HBT actually refers to "Herring Bone Twill" adopted by the U.S. Army as a suitable tough cotton fabric material for work detail issue uniforms called "dungarees". Early dungarees used at about the time of the Spanish-American War were of a russet brown color, hence the name "dungarees". By the 1920s, they started using "blue denim dungarees" using the "herringbone" pattern of weave soaked in indigo blue dye. By the late 1930s, a new "one piece" HBT overall suit was issued in a serge green color. This formed the basis for the new tropical issue U.S. combat uniform used in the later stages of the pacific war and thereafter. Note that both blue denim and serge green HBTs saw service among various units during the Bataan campaign. Some U.S. Marines as well as U.S. Army infantrymen did actually go into combat wearing blue dungarees. The serge green HBTs were a little less common at this time but were out there, and must have been highly sought after as they were superior to either the standard khaki "chinos" or the blue denims in the jungle; despite the fact that it was only available as one-piece overalls. Joe Lopez's mates from the New Mexico 200th Coast Arty (AA), herringbone twills galore! ;D

Well thank you. There are some of us that have been inspired by the Philippine reenactors. I have reenacted WW2 since 1985. I have read a little about the march, but never really looked into the 1941 and prewar impressions. It has become very interesting. Martin

Greetings Philip,
Fantastic pictures! Fantastic event! Fantastic encampment. I have to hand it you guys. Congratulations on a very successful first "Bataan Re-enactment". You guys look really great. The variety of authentic uniforms and complete period accroutements stimulates the interest and awe of what you guys have done. I'm sure a lot of people were surprised at what you guys were able to present. And I'll bet you all had fun in the process. I still remember how tired I was at the Reading World War II weekend but that was overshadowed by how much fun and good memories I had of that day. My congratulations to the other guys who also put in a lot of time, effort and money to come up with such great historical re-enactment. Were you able to take some action shots? Were you also able to change into your Katipunero uniforms? Hope to see more pictures.

Milspec,
Thank you so much. Wish you could have joined us here! Next year I really hope you and Victor and Donald have to come over to join as in a bigger group!
Yes we have some action shots we did but trying or begging the two folks who were very patient and supportive to take our pose shots! ;D I know Donald has a few of them. ating for them to do some photo shop work. ;D
as for the katipuneros it was only Teddy and Dindo who changed into them and joined the battle. We were all in the Bataan mood.
More to come.
Philip
