Great article and very nice pictures! Capt. Fernandez was a corporal in an MG section in the 26th cavalry. If you remember from his book, he tried to dislodge a jammed round from the chamber but his gunner prematurely let go of the bolt and his thumb was caught. He had a "garand thumb" with an MG

Excellent! It's sometimes hard to visualize how it all came together on the ground and this is a great help. I feel for Cpt. Fernandez- that must have hurt!

Never realized a single .30 cal required that much by way of manpower. Thanks for these. I saved all of them. Great for reference. It's not often you find front/back shots of uniform/gear this clear.

wow, i just found this section in the college library the other day in a LIFE book. showed all the magazines from jan. 1942 to may; definitely interesting and glad to see here.
