So many vehicles! I would love to own the minnie tank! my uncle Jimmy Banaghan, was wounded and taken prisoner at Arnhem, and was a POW with many Polish Parra's who had been captured at Antwerp. Uncle jimmy was in the 3rd bat. (Scottish Borders Regt.) My father & Uncle both being Irishmen were faced with deportation from England at the outbreak of war but chose to join-up and fight. My mother being pregnant with me and having a murmuring heart (Not a problem to-day but in 1940 it was thought very dangerous), My father was ordered to an artillery regt. close to London & my mother. Uncle Jimmy joined the Scots. Borderers and later trans. to the Parras with his company. Jimmy & his squad fought off the Germans for a week from a slit trench defending the approach road to the bridge. On the seventh day hearing the family noise of the Rolls-Royce tanks comming along the road, all the men leapt up out of the trench to cheer them and wave their berets. It was early and still foggy being near the river and so they did not see that the tanks had swastikas painted in white on their sides, until the turrets swung around to point the gun at them. Jimmy dived headfirst back into the trench and was pinned at the bottom by the boddies of hid dead comrades. He was shot in the foot and leg that still stuck out above the trench. He was Discoveredby the Huns 2 days later.
